Clicking sound when turning wheel

I'm getting this clicking sound when I turn my steering wheel. The noise is louder when the wheel is turned to the right. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be. It sounds like the noise is coming form the front left wheel area.

If your joints are clicking and gone, then your boot or Boots are already shot. You should get under there and see the condition of both sides to see IF both sides are affected.

As for If you should do it soon?

Yes... because eventually the joint will cease to make contact and then Not drive any Power to the wheel at all and leave you revving with NO power to drive. POissible on the highway or at an intersection where you need power. In the end it will eventually not roll at all.

As for If you should do it yourself? I suggest this Only IF you are handy around cars, have a decent amount of tools available including Airtools and compresser, a Helm's manual and even possibly a buddy to help you. It can be done with less but, It certainly is a messy labor intensive job AND It's always good to plan for the worst. Since you have the clicking sounds already It is Getting Worse already.

BTW, IF you do it yourself, Make sure to get OEM Boot kits from Acura!!! Aftermarket kits and half boots are shit and unreliable.

Good luck,

A.

1Greyteg hey man thanks for the help. One more question. What do I look for when inspecting the boots for damage?

Also I sent you a PM, did you get it?

look behind the wheel and see if the rubber boot is torn and not attached to something on both ends...

it may not be ur cv joiints only cause ive replaced the f-ing axle boots on my 92 civic like 2 times on each side... if you look behind the wheels and either one of the axle boots if torn and loose and laying off to one side and that happends to be the side that is clickin... just replace the axle...

the clickin shows that it hasn't and isn't being lubbed therefore the metal to metal is just wearing the axle pivit to nothin... i replaced my left axle like 6 months ago and not i have to replace the right cause the boot is shoot again but it's clicking...

it's not supposed to be a hard thing to do just i don't have the tools to do it myself...

Common signs

One common sign of bad cv joints or boots is the splatering of grease in a circular fashion in the engine bay or inside the wheel wells. I just had to replace my boots, but I was lucky and it was still under warranty.

hey it's a good idea in the meantime to try & not accelerate through turns unless necessary. this will speed up the death of you cv joints. try to be moving fast enough going into turns & not hit the gas until you straighten out.

hey guys thanks for all the replies. I have all the tools needed so I guess I'm gonna go ahead and replace the boots.

One more question. I was online trying to order the parts but I'm not sure if I need the inner or outer or both CV boot kit. Anyone know?

since they're clicking, you can't just use boots.

First get under the car and check to see if both sides/boots: "wheels left And right" are damaged or ok.

And it was described well above for what exactly to look for; the rubber boot having a tear or hole and the grease spattering in the wheel well and inside of wheel rim.

You will need a whole Set for each wheel which is both inner and outer boot. The OEM kit includes the clamps and grease for the install. Make sure to use all of the grease beofore packing it back together.

Just be aware that this is NOT just a 1, 2, 3,,, job that will just happen. You may need to bang stuff around with a rubber mallot and such. Of course a case of beer and some friends to egg you on and help are a good accompaniment to make the job more fun.

As per the PM, no problem. I am very busy at work now and my modem at home is shot after my house got hit by lightening. When it is fixed and I am on full time again "hopefully by Friday" I will be back to help more and add some new info to the mod stickies at the top of this forum.

Good luck,

A.

ok, I'm ready to do the install so I'm going to be gathering all the parts needed. Can someone list exactly what parts I need to replace. I know I need the boots (both inner and outer) and then the drive axles, is there anything else like the ball joint itself.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I would just like to comment on what a good post this is. Maybe this should be added to a tech post.

this happened on my accord. luckily, i was stil lin high school and we got parts for cheap. i got new axles (including the boots, they almost always come with them) for $100 each. just get a new axle and replace that, its a hell of a lot easier. couple bolts, the big axle nut, swing the rotor around, pop out the old and pop in the new and secure it up and its done. it took me 40 mins to replace the axle on my accord with a lift at school with basic tools.
