Code P0420 Bank 1...Again!!

Ok so i posted a problem on here about 3 months ago...heres the post...Code PO420...time for a new cat...

I had my cat replaced and the code went away...well about two days ago a check engine light came back on...had it checked today and its Code P0420 bank 1...the same code as before....please please everyone tell me that theres no way a cat could die in 3-4 months(I can't afford another 700-800)

Is there a possiblility i can just replace the front or back O2 sensor and this will solve my problem?

1. Why the HELL did you pay $800 for a cat replacement? I sold one a few months ago for $65, and it takes an hour tops to replace it.

2. Yes, try replacing the 02 sensors. Dont buy them new, youll pay out the ass again. Just buy some working used ones from car forums.

I had the same problem before, I'm almost 100% sure it's ur O2 sensor, by the way, bank1 means it's your O2 sensor before your cat (its theO2 sensor on your headers).

If you want to stop by, you can swap yours for mine. my car is "relaxing" in the garage after sucking in some water.
going to be working on it on sunday, you are welcome to stop by and give my O2 sensors a try.
give me a call and let me know.

No its not. The term bank refers to cars with multiple banks as in a V6 where there is a bank 1 for one side and a bank 2 for the other side.

In our cars, we only have one back. So because it says bank one does not mean its the primary sensor. In our tegs we only have two options, Bank 1 Sensor 1 (B1S1) or Bank 1 Sensor 2(B1S2).

I already told you to go the cheap route and replace the rear O2 sensor in the thread you linked. The sensors are a heck of a lot cheaper than the cat. Why you replaced the cat before the cheaper sensors is beyond me.

The sensors are the same for the rfont and rear. Trust me, its already been tested and they are both the same. They have different part numbers but thats just because one comes with a longer harness as opposed to the other. However, they are basically identical. So shops will charge you out the ass for the rear but they are the same.

Replacing the rear O2 will almost indefinately get rid of your code. Mines went away for about 50k until it came back on. Time for a new one.

I have my own code reader and thats why I know it's the O2 sensoy before the cat. This thing happen to my car before but i never knew that both )2 sensor are the same (Before & after the cat), by the way, thanks for the info, it will save me money next time I replace my )2 sensor.

The point is that because it says BANK 1 it doesn't mean its the primary sensor. All OBD2 cars have 2 sensors on each bank. Its just that our tegs only have one bank. So going off the term BANK is not a good indicator of which sensor it is.
