I have a 91 integra ls and im thinking bout getting coil overs for it. what kind should i get that are affordable and will i have to get new shocks right away? if anyone can help it'd be great.
Yes, you will need to change your dampers. Some coilover systems already come with the dampers, which have the threads machined on the body and are valved to match the specific spring rate. Other coilovers, known as coilover sleeves, do not come with the dampers - the threads are machined on a collar that fits over various aftermarket performance dampers, so you can choose the damper (and in some cases the spring rates) that you want to use. The valving for most aftermarket performance dampers will work with a more broad range of spring rates.
Tein Basics are garbage. They don't even sell them anywhere outside of the US because they know nobody elsewhere is stupid enough to buy that junk.
A Ground Control coilover sleeve setup with Koni Sport dampers is the best bang-for-the-buck you can get from a performance perspective.

My setup had me riding on ground control coilover sleeves with k&r gas shocks and the ride is great not to mention very little body roll when I take a quick curve going to work. Best bang for the buck because I got the whole setup installed for only $600. I also like the tokico blues, very very good shock. The car just seems to sit on the ground nicely although I didnt "slam" it on the ground. I have 17" on it and the car sits just above the tire and I havent had any problems with it. Maybe somebody you know has a setup like that ask him to take you for a ride and see what you think.
for coilovers, i wouldn't settle for anything less than teins, and since i can't afford teins, i just go with spring/shock combos like Tokico ILK kit, H&R/Tokico, KYB, or Koni, Eibach/Tokico, KYB, or Koni, or Tein S-Tech/Tokico, KYB, or Koni.
edit: by the way, get nothing less than adjustable dampers
you car is about 10 years old.. i say.. get you some new suspension.. Skunk2 coilovers/Tokico shocks.. then get the Skunk2 camber kit.. it is 10 years old.. might as well replace the suspension all round.. then if u do get the camber kit.. go get your alignment done..

Always have an alignment after dropping the car and always use a camber kit. I know people get away without doing it but its not the best idea in the world as for your car and coilovers, I'd go with the Tein basic kit too for $900 its not bad and you would have some JDM bling and also a nice suspension and you wouldn't have blown shocks because the shocks are part of the coilover I believe so anyway....My 1990 Integra GS has Tokico HP's and progress race springs 2.0in drop with a Revo camber kit and I love it. But just do alot of research before buying coilovers and I really don't think you'll need much more than a good spring/shock combo unless your just die hard Auto-x road racing or going to see alot of track time. Though I would always prefer coilovers.

Targa said from a performance stand point the GC/Konis are the best bang for the buck. No car has ever beaten me on tiens so why get them. Tein basic Springs rates are backward they ae twice as stiff in the front than in the back(504 front 280 Back) plus no damper ajustment. The more expenive teins(or any other JDM bling coilovers) which would be compable to GC/Konis are twice as much.
I am sold on GCs my civic pulls well over 1g(1.05 on 205/50R15 Falkens/1.64 g on 235/45R13 Kumbo R-Compounds) on a skipad and though a 600 foot slalom went 79mph. Tell me what other car can do that.
if it were my car i would replace the shocks too, the point was made its a 10year old car, for shits and giggles i would do some nice shocks and a simple coilover sleeve if your low on cash. they work really well for the money. i tend to sway towards coilovers on cars for the adjustability. when snow comes jack em up , when a show comes slamm it. when your racing you can adjust how you need for tire clearance or weight transfer purposes. they just make life easier than straight up lowering springs.
