I'm pretty sure you just wasted $45, you get what you pay for. Something that cheap is probably some crappy piece of piping with a lousy filter on it.

An aluminum tube is an aluminum tube. The smartest way to put together a CAI on a budget is to buy a cheap ebay intake, throw away the filter, and buy a nice K&N or similar filter for it. Only issues with the cheap piping would be fitment, but you get what you pay for.

If this is your first mod, you can expect to feel a small gain in power (around 2-4whp depending on diameter and length), and a very pronounced sound. The sound together with the small gain in power usually tends to make people think they've gained a lot more power...which is fine.

And on that note, if your piping doesn't fit, I have an AEM Short Ram and K&N Filter for sale if you're interested (B18B / LS). Difference with a good brand name like AEM/Injen/Comptech/etc, is that thought is put into the intakes for each application...i.e., perfect placement of vacuum hose, and (like mine) a tab and rubber bushing that secures the arm to the chassis.

or just buy some piping and make your own. I've always wondered why people would pay 300$ for an intake system. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a sticker? It's confusing. Is the vaccum hose positioning really that important? As long as it's in the original area, i doubt you'll run into any problems.

And as for the bushing well, geez they've thought of everything havn't they? What's wrong with tie-wraps? lol. I made my intake for 50$, used PCV piping. You'll find all the right parts and bends in the plumbing department. PCV piping is nice and smooth, designed for optimal water flow! People always ask me about my intake "what intake you have? i like the sound, it's mean", and laugh when i tell them how i made it. But it sounds just as good as any other.

That's right get your intake here for 100$! Specialy designed PCV piping for lower intake temperature, as well as a set of specially designed plastic straps! LIGHT WEIGHT!!! Its a bargain. (Filter not included):

DIY ftw.

As far as Vacuum hose location, I enjoy using a drill to bore out the hole on ebay intake arms, and putting a rubber grommet in....but it was just on a piddly D16Y8

Oh, and may I suggest duct tape to cover the existing holes that aren't in the correct location.

Actually, the "JDM adds 14hp" is a common misconception. JDM actually stands for Japanese Driving & Motorsport, and only "helps power" because if you are part of JDM, you can join the driving school and learn to be faster.
