Is it common...?

Is it a common thing for peeps with a GSR to swap out their motor for, lets say, the torquey b20z? I know it may seem like I answered my own question, i mean, the GSR engine is one of Honda's best, but i want to know if alot, or any, people are out for the torque, or whatnot. I know that some people opt for the LS/VTEC setup, easily making bank by selling their B-18C's and cheaply buying the LS block and yada yada. What i'm really asking is, are any of those conversions really worth it over the stock GSR engine, and is it common?

It's really up to the owner's decision whether to do ls/vtec (or b20/vtec) in lieu of the gsr engine. The gsr engine is great out of the box. Check out the ls/vtec sticky. I believe this subject has been covered there.

If you want the torque you could use the LS crank and rods, you will gain a little displacement from this. 37cc
You could by new cylender sleves and bore out the motor. I would recomend Darton sleves (http://www.darton-international.com/main_fr.htm)
If running forced induction going over a 85mm bore is NOT recomended
here are some boring specs

B18A/B18B (89 mm Stroke)
Bore (Stock 81 mm) ....Displacement (Stock = 1834 cc)
82 mm..................1880 cc
83 mm..................1926 cc
84 mm..................1973 cc
84.5 mm................1996 cc
85 mm..................2020 cc
86 mm..................2068 cc
87 mm..................2116 cc

B18C (Stroke 87.2 mm)
Bore (Stock 81 mm)...Displacement (Stock 1797 cc)
82 mm................1842 cc
83 mm................1887 cc
84 mm................1933 cc
84.5 mm..............1956 cc
85 mm................1979 cc
86 mm................2026 cc
87 mm................2073 cc

rufus`` will become famous soon enough
most people are quite happy with their stock engine and either modify the internals or go FI instead of doing a swap. the only swap id even consider would be a jdm prelude type s motor cuz of the 50 hp gain. otherwise most gs-r's keep their engines.

cutting and pasting from my article at team - integra .net eh?

anyway, do yourself a favour and bore and resleeve the gsr to 85mm...it's an easier way than swapping a b20vtec for a gsr....I do cover this in my Engine Package II: Swapping parts for power article there...

I love it when people take credit for my work....
