Comptech Icebox
Well, either there isn't a single post about the Icebox on this forum, or the search function is down again lol (or my computer is seriously screwed).
Anywho, just lookin for some opinions on it. I don't mind the cost of the box itself since it has the bigger plumbing than the stock box.
Question is, what kind of 3" piping do I have to look for to complete the intake system? I've read elsewhere that not just any 3" SRI (Which only exist as eBay intakes as far as I can find) will work because of the shape and size of the icebox. It looks like the the icebox does come with the lower pipe to the ground....but is it 3"?
If I want 3" all the way do I have to pick up my own piping and do a DIY (Which would be interesting, as I could try to route the piping to the lower grille area)?
Thanks ya'lll, any info, suggestions, comments, (or Search Function Links if it works for you) is appreciated

I have the complete setup- the box and the intake arm, with the filter. The only thing its missing is the very bottom peice- an air ram peice. It still goes all the way down into the wheel well. Ill sell you the whole she-bang for $150.
Im looking to replace it with an AEM ITR CAI.

Wow, Mr Mod to the rescue yet again...I think...is your intake arm for the GSR, or do you have an aftermarket I/M? I'll seriously consider that if your intake arm is bent to fit my Skunk2/LS Manifold...and if it's 3" (or is that why you're getting the ITR CAI)...

It is 3" all the way down. I replacing it because im going to try a new setup, and hopefully squeeze out a few more ponies. I just purchased a 65mm JG Edelbrock throttle body, and im looking to get an ITR CAI as well as a BPi velocity stack.
I think the weak point in the comptech intake/icebox is the filter. Its a wet filter that needs to be oiled. I personally dont think they flow as well as a dry filter. They may filter better, but I think a dry filter provides adequate filtering, and more power. K&N makes a dry filter that will work in the comptech icebox, if you find this is a problem.
Couple things... it'd be about $175 shipped total, if thats cool with you. They usually go for $250+, but since im missing that bottom peice, $175 seems fair (and will almost cover the expense of my new intake). I wont be able to ship it out until thanksgiving week, since my car is at home, and i am at school. The intake is still on my car and will have to come off. If youre interested, shoot me a PM, as you have dibs. (Ive got another guy who wants it, but hes giving you first crack at it)
Let me know.

Thanks again man, will PM......
Feel free to keep discussing intakes and such, but this is perfect for me as I need a 3" CAI, and this will prevent against hydrolock, and keep the engine bay heat out of the intake.

Oh, and i have a Blox intake manifold, so it will bolt to your LS no problems. (If it bolted to a GSR, I thin MQTGSR would have picked it up. )
Thats the main thing im concerned about by switching to a straight CAI. Hydrolock. Ive never had to drive through deep water, but Im a bit paranoid. I dont plan to run a bypass filter, im just going to take the risk. We dont get rain too heavily here, and i try not to drive the gsr in the rain, so hopefully i wont have a problem.
Side note: If you wanted, you could probably fit a BPI velocity stack on the end of my icebox, even with the missing peice. I dont know if that makes much difference to you though.

Yea, I covered most of that in my PM to you.
To everyone else, I'm thinking of just going to see my buddy at Home Depot, get whatever 3'' Piping that fits, and putting some ebay plastic/rubber velocity stack on it just so it sucks more smoothly. That, or try to route it to the lower grille somehow.
And about hydrolock, good choice on no bypass valve, I think the power losses from the bypass valve would just equal the gains from a SRI anyways.

I rode for a while with a full cai and after a few close calls in the rain, i switched it over to sri. There is absolutely no down low loss of power and the top end power actually got better. Odly enough, i had a wonky idle problem that fixed itself then too.

What size SRI did you switch to from what size CAI?

My thoughts exactly. We'll see what happens, see which makes more power. Im not too concerned, if i dont like it, i can always get another icebox.
Since the GSR is no longer a DD (although ill probably DD in summers), i feel a little better about running a CAI. Ill just take the beater out if it rains (although it leaks a lot, )

Oh, i just got an ebay 2.5" two piece and filter. Then i had a 3" aluminum short ram one from Autozone that had a K&N filter on it. Much happier with the shorty.

If I get 1-2whp more just by bolting this thing on when Ken sends it down to me, you think it will affect my A/F? More air with the same amount of fuel would lean it out, but could this take the AFR up more than like 0.1?
