Cool, I have to go to the dyno the second I get home because I have a paint job due on insurance (Door got scratched) that's gonna expire soon. So while it's in, I'll grab a 30 minute tune just to make sure...

It's not too hard to find the Icebox and downtube. But 95% of the ones you find do NOT come with the upper intake pipe to the throttle body. There are a couple on eBay (some in eBay stores so check the bottom of the webpage too).

IIRC my old Compech intake had a velocity stock on it as well so it worked pretty well. But I do have to agree that the filter is not really good quality. An old friend hinted to me after his visit and tour of Comptech's facility (old one) that they only choose it for cost or something and its not really the ideal one. But ended up using it instead. So if you could get a K&N filter for it, it would be sweet!

I wouldn't say that you need a new tune with it, but just to see how it compares to the old setup may help so much in letting others know how much and how important a tune is. Who knows, it may even help a lot more with some tuning involved.

Yea I think I might have 2 hours of labour extra left over from insurance after he finishes the paint job, so I'll use that towards another dyno session, and we'll see how much of a diff the intake makes. Hopefully I can make my current K&N fit in the icebox....it's on my 2.75'' Intake now.....so maybe with a hair-dryer, I can widen it to fit on the 3'' comptech plumbing.

The problem with this isnt getting the filter to fit inside the icebox. The filter that comes with the icebox is exactly the right size to keep the box airtight- no air from the engine bay can get into the box (or very little). A standard dry filter that comes with an AEM intake fits inside the comptech box, and onto the intake arm, but it does not create this seal- so it allows hot air to get in. I already thought of trying that, lol. But Im 99.9% sure i once saw an icebox with a k&n dry filter that was the right size. The Icebox filter is kind of longer and thinner (hotdog shaped compared to the aem 'hamburger' shaped, if you will). You'll see what I mean when I send it- but im sure youll figure something out.

If you have evr worked on a dirtbike, youll know what i mean about this wet filter. Its the preferred filter for dirtbikes because there is so much more to filter, the wet filter does a better job. But on the road where there are less particles in the air (ie, dirt being thrown at you), its not nessecary to use such a filter, since a dry one will get the job done.

Yea, I hope I can figure out something...I wouldn't be a very good engineer if I couldn't lol (damn, I just put myself on the spot).

Oh, and my K&N is the dry filter that comes with the AEMs....so I'll see soon....it better be warm up here when you send it, cuz I don't have a nice warm garage to install it in...

LOL, is it EVER warm up there?

I did a full B16 motor swap in a CRX last year during Christmas break in an unheated garage in the middle of winter. I think you can handle installing an itty bitty intake.

Actually here at Uni in Windsor (across the river from Detroit) its not bad. We just had a couple weeks of 85-90ºF, but we're back down to Fall temps, but it can get right back up there in November (weird, but even only 1km from Detroit, we get totally different weather because of the Lake effects)...

If I was back home in Winnipeg.....yea....not gonna do any modding when the ºF scale and ºC meet up at -44

Holy crap. -44 degrees? My face would freeze solid.

It was cold when we did that engine swap, but not THAT cold! It was probably in the 20's (ºF).

Ill work on a car when its damn cold out if i have a friend to help. If its just me, i look out the window and go "well, fuck that."

Update:
The intake came home today! I'll get to lay eyes on it in ~1 Week depending on if it takes more than 3 days to drive the teg home in winter conditions. Will probably install it the morning after I get home at 1am...

Will update with results and hopefully a video. Have to make an appointment for my dyno guy to paint out some scratches under insurance...Any leftover $$$ and my own is going towards a couple pulls to see what the intake did.

Big Thanks to Ken (sirfallsalot) for gettin it out to me.
