Custom making intake box...

Has anyone done a custom intake box?? I have an AEM short ram, and would like to try and make a custom intake box to have some venting down below closer to the ground/bumper area

Anyone know of some stories or write ups? Thanks

I was thinking about this the other night. If you have a regular style short ram, is it possible to make something like a duct mod to provide some cooler fresh air up to the filter? Sort of like what comptech has done...Wouldn't really be useful unless you are moving though.

Well, any cover OVER the short ram filter would be better than hot engine air, as it would act as a heat sheild...

But, the ducting down below could be say a flared 3" tube bent to shape/fit to draw air in.

Every air filter is only good when driving, when sitting still or at idle, it does nothing for you really. But the Icebox is just that, it's a cover with ducting (similar to oem without the bulky ass resonators, etc.) that fits to a intake tube and keeps engine heat out, but draws cool air in from the bottom....

I was thinking of fabbing one in fiberglass somehow...

i have designed/made one with the help of a friend of my father. it's sheetmetal, and is in the beginning stages, but after running with it a few months i can say that even after hard driving, the box is relatively cool to the touch. it's off getting sealed right now, when i get it back maybe i can try to get a pic or two up.

Seen various style off the stock intake box... definetely your best idea if you still have it! .. Hmm if I can remember the catch phrase ..

Look at comptech's intake for ideas.. and look around the DIY stuff its there
