enuf backpressure???
My piston rings just went on my g2 and the mechanic i took it to to get fixed said it was because the exhaust did not have enuf back pressure. I only had a cat back on it and it was a good one. I have headers, a high flow cat and full exhaust on my g3 and i dont want this to happen to that one. what is the deal? are exhausts bad for hondas? Mechanic said hondas are made to run with more back pressure than these so called "muscle cars"

You're not wrong. The mechanic is wrong, and should be punished for spouting misinformation that he should be knowledable of.
Why on earth would you want back pressure? Exhausts are designed to expel the exhaust gas, and back pressure prevents this, so what would be beneficial about preventing the exhaust from doing what it's supposed to do?

Exactly. You want NO backpressure... and at any rate, low/no backpressure in no way could cause engine damage. Your mechanic is a dumbass.

This is all news to me. I thought backpressure is what creates a push-pull effect on the pulses of gas as they exit the exhaust. If having no backpressure was beneficial, then we would have 2" collectors, 2.5" piping, and 3" exhausts.

Not that far fetched at all... I have a 2" collector, 2.25" cat, and 2.36" exhaust piping. You always want to either match or step up on the exhaust side.
Can't confuse backpressure with flow velocity. Any kind of backpressure means that exhaust gases are being trapped rather than scavenged out - not a good thing. Too big piping = low/no backpressure perhaps, but low flow velocity means the exhaust gases just kinda hang around rather than being smoothly and easily flowed out. Too small piping = high flow velocity, but too much exhaust being crammed into a small pipe means lots of backpressure. A properly sized pipe will be big enough to not cause backpressure, but small enough to enable a quick and smooth exit.
Think of your vacuum cleaner's attachment hose in reverse. If the hose was 1 foot in diameter, you'd get no suction and wouldn't be able to pick up hardly anything. If it was 1/4" in diameter, there would be a lot of suction (high flow velocity) but surely the motor inside the cleaner would be straining to pull in more air than can fit in that tiny hose (backpressure in a sense). At about a 1.5" diameter like most vacuum cleaners, it's big enough to match the capacity of the vacuum cleaner's motor, yet small enough to get the air speeding along quite quickly.

Would it benefit you to get a 2.25" collector?

Probably, but the time/money involved (mainly retuning the thing) isn't worth it to me right now for just another hp or two.
