Grinding noise while decelerating?

I have a 94 Accord manual. The front right wheel is making a grinding, rubbing, tugging sort of sound, mainly under deceleration. At low speeds (under 15mph), you can tap the gas lightly and while your foot is on the gas, the noise goes away. As you drift down to a stop, the noise comes back. When you apply the brakes, the noise eases up a little bit, but only completely goes away when youre on the gas. The noise is aparent at all speeds, but mostly at lower speeds (probably because of the reduced wind/engine noise). Any ideas what this is?

P.S. There are no cracks in my axle boots, but it did look like there was a good amount of axle grease under the car a couple months back when i changed my tranny fluid. I dismissed it because there were no other signs that something was wrong, and my car is dirty under there anyway.

Ugh, sorry, I just remembered something else. Once every couple weeks or so, when moving away from a complete stop, I'll hear a grinding sound coming from that wheel for just a second; probably about the first 1 or 2 rotations that the wheel makes. Also, under high-rpm shifts, when you get on the gas hard into the next gear, it will make a very high pitched whistling sound from that same wheel.

check ur brake pads...they might be worn...i had the same symptoms as u did, the grinding noise coming from the front when i slowed down...or when i started from a stop it would grind...

then after driving up to speed it would go away sometimes and come back...

i thought it was my axel cause my cv boots were slit a little with grease coming out..had them changed but the grinding was still there.... till i changed my pads cause they were worn.

so it might be the wear indicator on ur pads making the noise... just something to check out

peace

I also had the same problem. It could be either:

- worn brake pads OR
- brake rotor needs to be machined

Check those out.

ok check this out! i took it to a local shop that used to always do me and my family right, and was always fair and honest. they hired all these new mechanics, cuz i guess the guys working there were just getting old and retired or something. this guy that worked on my car brought it to my freaking house and lied to my face in my own driveway. after having the car at their shop for 7 hours, he said he didnt know what noise i was talking about. the radio was on and he had put 16 miles on it!! I backed it out of my driveway with him in the car and i'm like "THAT noise". His response was a surprised "oh". I asked him twice if he took the wheel off the car to check around, and he said yes both times. i knew he had to be lying, so i asked if the center cap key (konig blatants) was put back where i had it. he stumbles to a response of "um, yeah... its right where it was". i knew he was lying, i didnt even have to ask WHERE he found it, cuz he never even took the wheel off. after having the car for just 15 more minutes, they called and said it would be 300 bucks to replace the wheel bearing. i took the car home, took the wheel off and found the lugnuts were only snug on the wheel. i torqued them to 100ft/lbs and the noise is GONE. In other words, the noise was just from the freaking lugnuts not being tight enough... lying freakin mechanic

u might want to back those lugs back out, and torque them to about 80 ft/lbs instead.

sucks that so many mechanics are stupid liars. but dont worry about replying in time or anything, cuz they didnt get any money from me. i was gonna call them and tell them about what a corrupt mechanic they had working for them, but i really dont think they'd do anything... ::shrugs::
