H22 / H23 Swap

Ok I got a lot of questions. I can get the jdm h22a block for cheap to replace my gsr block. First would it be worth it to swap? Would changing out the block produce the 220 hp and 163 tq a jdm h22a makes? Or does it need both the head and the block? Should I hold out for an h23? I was thinking maybe mating a h23 bottom with a jdm h22a head to get the displacement of h23, but not as weak as the h23 is compared to the h22. Or perhaps just an entire Jdm h22a engine. Another question about this sort of swap is all the bolt ons I would have to get wouldn't be as simple as buying them for an integra or prelude, because the fitment would be all funny right? Sorry for the nonstop questions, just had a whole lot of them floating around my head for a while and decided to spill em out.

It's gonna be heavy, and much less aftermarket parts for the H22 (both engine and tranny). Not worth it IMO, go for a B20... cheaper (a lot), swaps right in, tons of aftermarket, and with not much work can have the power AND torque of an H22 with or without VTEC... and without the weight gain.

First thing like transparent said b-series headwont fit a h-series block. The drop in of the h22motor in an integra body is not just a simple bolt on. Different mounts and i believe the shift linkage needs to be cut as well. White98ls a few months ago there was a discussion and it turns out that the extra weight in the car is minimal so it shouldnt affect it too much. The motor although it is heavier than the b18c1 its not by alot as most people would claim. White98ls is correct when he says about the aftermarket support for it. There just was not alot for that motor and most of the bolt on components for the h22 integra would be custom for fitment purposes.

Personally i would swap in a h22 before i put in a b20. I just dont like that block. The block virtually cost you almost 2g's to get. approx 800-1000 for the long block since most places wont sell just the block and then its another 900-1100 to resleeve it since the stock sleeves will and i mean WILL crap out on you. Theres alot you can do with an h22 just be aware that it will cost you alot of money and parts are hard to come by. The only thing i like about the b20 is that parts are EASY to come by but thats it.

The main reason why people don't think the H22 weight difference is that big is that most people end up having to take out their A/C (and some their P/S also) to get it in there. My A/C weighed 44lbs, so if you compare H22 w/o A/C and B18/B20 w/ A/C then it's not nearly as bad, it pretty much cancels out in fact. I think H22s are fine if you just want a drag car, but handling-wise it's not the smartest choice. Especially with the hassle of swapping in the H22 and getting everything to fit, plus the much larger B-series aftermarket/OEM options, I don't think it's worth it. For instance for trannies on the B-series, you can go cable/hydro, LS, B16A, B16B, B18C1, B18C5 w/LSD, JDM B18C5, or even swap in the 4.785 FD from the JDM tranny to ANY of those trannies listed. With the H22 you have... other H22s, JDM H22 trannies, and other trannies which are inferior to the H22 to swap with. Everything else will have to be custom.

If you're worried about the B20 block strength, let me put it this way... you can resleeve a B18A/B or B20 with Golden Eagle 84 or 84.5mm sleeves and end up with a very strong block for still the same or less $$ than an H22. I mean, you could get a completely shot B18A block and have it resleeved for $1k right there, that's still half of what an H22 costs and you'll have a torquey, long-stroke 2.0L with a relatively low weight. And everything will swap right back in no problems, with full B-series compatibility.

Ok guys thanks for the straight answers. I guess with all that custom bs im gonna have to deal with for the swap, I think i'd rather just bore out my 1.8 liter to 2.0. Would I need different boltons/parts if it was just bored out?

Besides the obvious (pistons, aftermarket rods if you want) nothing else is necessary if you're going to bore it out with new sleeves. You'll need something to tune it with though. And of course, you'll need stickier tires for all that POWA!!!!!

Hondata for tunning will set you free. Im dying to get mine so i can get my monster tuned finally. My throtle foot is sooo twitchy. Btw i have a 1.9gsr

Yes you read that right its a 1.9 not a 1.8. And yea stickier tires will help amd maybe look into some upgraded axles like a stage 1 axle. If you have sticky tires when you "bang" the gear your axles WILL snap.

Nice. How much did it cost to get it to 1.9? And for the axles I heard driveshaftshop.com makes good ones for hondas.
