hard steering

hey all i just bought a tricked out 94 ls integra, and have a question....it has a momo steering wheel and its kinda hard to turn, could the wheel be on too tight? how hard is it to loosen it? is the wheel gonna be loose if i loosen anything up? i know the power steering works it is the wheel for sure...

say what? The steering wheel is on too tight so you cant turn it?

That shouldnt be the case...and if u need to loosen up the steering wheel as you say, there are multiple allen head screws which hold the steering wheel into place. They are located right in the niddle of the wheel.

yes i can turn the wheel but have to use more effort than a regular steering wheel or without power steering..i know if the power steering isnt working once you get going on down the road its easier to steer, not the case here its the same all the time.

check the fluid levels...no leaks. The belt is fine right? The belt is in the working spec...how much deflection?

Definately sounds like your power steering isn't working or the belt isn't on.

At any rate you should do what Jayman said... And even though the power steering may not have been removed altogether the past owner may have just removed the belt and run it that way.

Your description sounds Exactly like "No power steering..."

A.

PS when you test drove the car BEFORE you bought it, did you even think to ask about this? Why not ask the last guy what he did to the car? I'd have him write a whole list of EVERYTHING that has been done...

when i bought the car the guy told me that he followed the instructions and thats why it is on there so tight...like i said before i know what it feels like when the power steering doesnt work because my crx is like that..at first it is kinda hard to steer but once the car gets going down the road it get easier and while driving its not hard at all. in this case its harder to turn all the time, so i know its not the power steering it has to be the wheel..must be that it needs loosening..im gonna go try that in a few, ill let ya know what happens!!

DO NOT LOOSEN YOUR STEERING WHEEL AND THEN DRIVE YOUR CAR!!! You're going to find that the wheel's in your hands and not on the steering column. The P/S is out and that's why it's hard to steer. Keep in mind that this car is about 1,000 lbs. heavier than your Rex, and is therefore much more difficult to steer. Best of luck figuring it out.
