Example VIN

Seperate the VIN like so

JH4 DB7 5 5 1 W S 000001

JH4=Honda Motor Co. Ltd. Acura Passenger Vehicle

DB7 = Body and engine type.
DB7: 4dr B18B
DB8: 4dr B18C
DC4: 2dr B18B
DC2: 2dr B18C

5= Body and transmission type
3: 2dr 5spd
4: 2dr auto
5: 4dr 5spd
6: 4dr auto

5= Vehicle grade *note* - may vary from year to year...
1: Type R
3: RS no pass. airbag (94)
4: RS with passenger airbag (94)
5: LS
6: GS/SE
8: GS-R
9: GS-R w/ leather seats

1= check digit, disreguard

W= Model year
R: 1994
S: 1995
T: 1996
V: 1997
W: 1998
X: 1999
Y: 2000
1: 2001

S= Factory Code
S: Suzuka, Japan

000001= serial number

this is helpful in that you can tell what your car was originally equipped with, as some heavily modified cars are sometimes lied about...

*EDIT - 26/08/02* i have updated the model year letters. the helms manual i have says that r is a 1994. this must have been an error made by team integra. sorry for any inconvenience. the vin decode is for gen 3 tegs only... hope it works... guys with newer tegs please tell me if x=2000 and y=2001 models or not. also, just a note about the serial number. these numbers are there in order of the built cars. if you had 000001 then it was the first car made that year.

That's pretty cool....never knew that. I just picked up a 95 SE earlier in the week and it's nice to know that the stuff from that VIN matches the car.

BTW, maybe this...along with the other threads you posted about the different gen spec sheets...should be stickied.

Read the info carefully. It's the same.

W= Model year
R: 1993
S: 1994
T: 1995
U: 1996
V: 1997
W: 1998
X: 1999
Y: 2000
1: 2001

Just locate this certain letter and you'll get the year of the vehicle.

i beleive that the only different thing is the chassis code. you would have to substitute eh2/eh3 and eg and ek and other stuff. if i can find something ill post it on the civic board...

hey my ride is a 96 gsr, but according to ur guide it's a 95...w'sup with that? for the model year digit i have a T. and i have the 02 sensor on the cat that means my car is a 96 for sure, though. and i ordered a carfax and it says it's a 96. can anyone explain this to me? thanks.
