How strong is fiberglass?

How strong is the fiberglass JDM type R conversion for integras? Is it worth it or should i spend more money on the metal version?

Have you ever had experience with fiberglass body kits?

They can shatter and flake, and if you hit small rocks youll notoice splinters...its not as strong as metal. And once it tears the only way to fix it is with bondo and fiberglass.

Its cheap, but not as durable as aluminum.

fiberglass sucks ass. it looks cool cuz you can form it into crisper lines (compared to urethane or metal) and it's cheap, but it doesn't hold up well to any kind of impact.

I remember seeing a video clip of a wheel/tire being drop onto a fiber glass hood and it took the impact pretty well. It looked fine after the test.

fiber glass is fiber glass.

plastic is platic.

fiberglass is not the same as plastic.

the common material they use for the "plastic" ones are usually polyurethane or urethane which are WAAAAY more duable than fiberglass. they dont make the whole JDM front end in polyurethane..., the real one consists of 2 metal fenders, metal hood, and polyurethane oem bumper... also polyurethane oem optional lip spoiler....
hope that explains it!

the place i got my kit from was www.importtrenz.com the transaction was ok...if you know someone with a body shop have them order it for you because they gave mine a discount...only paid 1600 shipped for 1 hood, 2 fenders, 1 bumber, 1 grill, 1 lip, 2 non-hid lights, and 1 oem rad support....i love my front...no one knows its fiberglass....here is a link so you can kind of see the front click here to see my front....

hope this helps

opps, icic.
Thanks for informing me.
btw, is plastic cheaper than fiberglass?
It should be. Since they are way more durable than fiberglass, how come they don't make plastic JDM front?

Fiberglass is cheaper than urethane. Its pretty easy to make. Cloning kits is a big industry and its always in fiberglass. I do a lot of body work and have a fiberglass kit myself. I plan on getting an oem jdm front in the future. Fiberglass is just a pain in the long run.
