frankenstein
I just dont like it. call your project what it really is crvtec/lsvtec/mini-me. to me that term makes it seem like those projects are so easy, just like a bolt on. Ive been seeing/hearing it a lot lately for some reason. so I figured Id let you guys know how I feel about it [/rant]
Frankenstein is a pretty good term. You know exactly what it means; "piecing different parts together to create something unique". It doesn't refer to only engines.
it bothers me more when people call them "hybrids"...i'm always wondering if i'm going to look at some gas/electric piece of shit
Well it was originally called a hybrid setup because it's the joining of things from two seperate factions.
The term had been around much longer for swapped cars than gas/electric piece of shit has been around.

i call mine a hybrid. because it's 2 parts from 2 different motors. that's usually what a hybrid is, 2 different parts to make one part for a single purpose. it doesn't just refer to gas/electric motors.

Actually, it means exactly what it is. A Frankenstein. Everyone nkows the story of frankenstein. His creator used a different brain and put it into his head. So basically he has a brain swap.
Since the VTEC head is swapped out to create a LS/VTEC engine, they call it a Frankenstein.
Hybrids on the other end is a term used to describe something that is made from combining two thigns together. Since a civic has a complete swap from a its donor, its considered a hybrid. Hybrids today as in gas/electric uses this term because of the combination of gas and an electric motor. So because the term hybrid is widely known from these gas/eleectric vehicles, people tend to think its something else.
Take freon as an example. Its actually called refrigerent. But since freon (name of a physical company that made R12 refrigerent) was the most widely used, it stuck and became the unofficial name for refrigerent.
Another good example is kleenex. People ask for kleenex to blow their noses, but in reality, its just tissue paper. Kleenex, again is a name of a company that makes tissue paper.

thats true, but is the only name that Ive heard for that particular project
Because to say Y8/Y7 swap sounds retarded. Or Z6/Y7 swap. Thing is...if you say LS/VTEC to those that aren't familary to Honda's, you'll end up having to explain the whole process...if you care about them. Frankenstein basically sums it up as being a project engine. A monster as you will...like the monster under your hood...you big bad devil you.

i understand that hybrid was a term in use long before gas/electrics, but when you hear the term thrown around cars, it immediately conjures up immages of gas/electrics... thats just the new common usage... and frankenstein sounds kind of derogatory if you ask me...if somebody doesnt understand what i'm talking about when i say "ls/vtec" or the like, they can either ask and learn or remain ignorant... its up to them...lol
I think hybrid is a fine term when joining up two different parts. For example these two guys on rs25.com a Subaru forum have different setups on their engines. EJ22 and a EJ20 setup on a EJ25 block. Their cars run really well, and they look awesome. Reppin the Subaru 2.5 RS
