I just looked at Sacramento Raceway's website and it says that if you run below or faster than 14.00 sec then a SFI approved helmet is required!
Does anyone know where I can get one. Online is fine, but I would like to get it locally. I don't even know if I'll break into the 13's but its better to be safe than sorry and not be able to run anymore.
SA approve helmets have nomex...they are requirement in any drag racing and road racing sanctioning bodies...motorcycle helmets are not SA standard and do not have nomex...please don't guess if you don't know or not sure...

the have changed the standard in 2000..SA2000 is the current standard... for now the SA95 standard is being accepted for 5 more years....I have Bieffe Predator SA95 helmet...
you can reasonable semi-open face helmets made by Bell or Simpson that are SA95. If you want a full face, then Bieffe and Simpson are pretty resonably priced.

I just need something to get by so I'll just get the minimum requirement ones. I like the Bell M2 and its quite affordable. Now I just got to figure out where I can go locally to shop and test them to see what size fits my head!

Did you actually get a chance to try your helmet on before you bought it or did you just measure and buy the proper size according to that chart?
I'm at 22 1/2" so thats gonna be like 7 1/8-7 1/4. Thats like border line for small and medium. Just wondering how accurate that chart is (i'm pretty sure its accurate, but I'm at the borderline) without even trying out the helmet. Since I'm at the borderline, I don't know if I should get the larger medium one or the small one? What's your take on this?
What are the differences between the SA and M standards?
SA Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences between them:
1. SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;
2. SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal);
3. SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not
smaller is better...trust me you don't want a helmet rolling around your forehead pushing down on your eyebrows in the heat of battle.
