Thumbs down I need help my engine died

my timing belt snapped, and i took the car to canadian tire, it was the only place open before the xmas holidays, there mechanics put a new timing belt on and told me the water pump was leaking,(it was not) they made me pay them for all that work and parts, and then there was major engine damage done to valves 1, and 4

would a mechanic not open the covers to check the valves when the timing belt snapped on a japanese car? this is not a shady mechanic, canadian tire is a huge company, i need opinions, why did they replace all those parts when they knew i needed a new engine, why did they not check for engine damage, and what exactly does a diagnostic test reveal? does it show the reason the engine wasnt turning over and that is all? or what damage does a diagnostic test show? it also says they replaced the belt tensioner? why did they do all this work for nothing, i had to pay them and they wouldnt release the keys to me......

Welll on some Honda engines they have a what is called a Interference engine wich i suppose to prevent bending Valves when the Timing belt snaps, but they shouldnt have done all that work with out checking the Head First.

And a diagnostic test, well at least just a Regular one wont tell you anything about bent valves, its mostly just with electronics of the car Like if your oxygen sensors arent working or if you have a misfire.

You cant tell if the valves are bent by pulling the valve cover, a diagnostic wont help either you need to do a leak down test that would tell you if the valves are bent. Most honda engines are interfernce engines and yours is which means when the timing belt snaps the valves will be open or partially open and the piston will hit the valves bending them which is what happend to you. You may just need new valves but they should have checked the head and valves i would threaten to take them to court.

They should have checked, but if you bitch and moan alot, you will probably be able to get canadian tire to fix it. Its not how trashed your valves/head is..its how bad are your pistons and is it ok to just replace the valves and fix the head if its messed up. Might be worth it to just buy a new motor.
