Are integras pretty nice year-round cars for places with harsh winters?

I just got stationed up in South Dakota recently and my 2nd gen Rx7 turbo is getting killed here. It was something like 24 below zero yesterday, icy roads, snow all over and the FC isn't liking it at all. Everyone around here has a truck, and I might consider getting one of those and a Ninja 500 to enjoy tossing around the many mountain roads nearby in the summer.

I'm also considering a 2nd gen integra or maybe an early 3rd generation, since I'm guessing it'll be pretty fun to drive in the summer and it being FWD should be decent in snowy weather. Any of you guys know how integras perform in extreme cold conditions? Are they pretty reliable and handle predictably? And thoughts on how it compares with the fun-to-drive factor of the mazda in the summer? Thanks all.

I have a 99 civic si and it isnt to bad in the winter. I have gotten stuck a couple times this year in just a couple inches of loose snow. My tires are pretty worn so i think ne tires would help a lot. I do know it gets around a lot better than my dads TA in the winter so i would assume that it should be better than your mazda. Just go test drive one and see what you think.

I love driving my fwd car but i also love driving my dads rwd car because you can fuck around a little more in it. Thats just kind of personal preference.

Hope this helps a little

Hmm I think I just might get a 2nd gen integra and send the 7 home and let a friend take care of it for a while. The other day I was trying to get up a steep hill with some pretty thick snow to a shopping center parking lot from a standstill at a stopsign. Damn thing would spin and spin and spin, the tail would kick out, swing side to side, everything but go up the hill.

Anyways, the older integras like a 1991 or 1992 have the 140hp b18b motor, correct? Is it decently peppy and easy/fairly cheap to mod? There's a do-it-yourself auto shop on base with lifts and all sorts of tools so I do have resources to do some work on the car. I know the rx7 has to go either way and beggars can't be choosers, but I don't wanna give up too much in the performance area.
