JDM mirror install

Tools/consumables:
Coat hanger
Tape
zip ties
butt connectors
Crimpers
wire cutters(dykes)
wire
Drill+bits

Parts:
JDM mirrors
Switch(JDM mirror switch)
JDM mirror relay

The first step is to remove the door panels and remove the mirror switch assembly from the driver's side door panel.

Remove the 2 screws towards the top to gain access to the switch.
It will just pop out after that. Then just pop in the JDM switch.

The hardest part of this project is running a wire connecting the mirrors together. You could also use this technique if you want to run wires into you doors if you have an amplifier for your door speakers. But you can get around running the wire in the door by running the speaker wire from the amp and connecting into the speaker wires behind the radio and use the factory wiring to get into the doors.

The connector you have to run the wire through is located in the door-jam on the lower part of the door. If you remove the speaker (as seen in the pic below) it makes it easier to work with the connector. It is a PITA to separate it. You have to push down on the tab while you are separataing the connector. It's hard to do in the small door jam.
This is the side that will come out of the door when disconnected.

Now you need 2 wires inside the door so I used speaker wire since it would be easier to work with instead of running 2 separate wires you can run the 2 at the same time.

You want to drill the hole in the empty section of the connector. Then to the same on the plug side. Be very careful not to damage any of the factory wires.

This is the door-jam side of the connector.

When you run the wire out of the male connector in the door into the female side make sure your wire is on the side of the door hinge as pictured. The wire has to run down behind the hinge so the door can open and close.

Then it will go through this rubber grommet and then into the cabin.

I then used a coatanger and ran the wire through the rubber grommet so the wire is now in the fender/wheel well.

Its gonna go into this opening

You have to do the next step by feel. But once you put the coat hanger in that opening it is in a open space between the fenderwell and the cabin. There is a small opening inside there that you have to poke through to get the wire in the cabin. It takes a lot of felling around. Once you're inside you have to find where the wire came through and pull it down.

you then must run it threw the cabin and repeat the process on the other side. out of the cabin and into the door.

Here is the wiring schematic pardon my MS Paint skills

If you have a 98-00 3 door these are your wire colors. Other years may vary. I got these colors from my 98-00 Helms wiring manual so other years may be the same let me know.

I started with the Left Mirror hooking up the wires. You have to cut the factory connector off and splice up or solder in the JDM connectors. You must also do the same for the pass side and the OEM Mirror Switch

'A' WHT/Silver dots to 'B' WHT/Silver dots on Right side mirror and BLU/RED on the Relay (5)
'B' BLK to 'A' BLK on Right side mirror and BLU on the Relay (1)
'C' YEL/BLK to YEL/BLK On the factory harness you cut
'D' YEL/RED to YEL/RED
'E' YEL/WHT to YEL/WHT

Relay connections
(2) WHT/BLU to 12V
(3) BLU/YEL to BLU/YEL on the Switch (A)
(4) BLK to Ground

JDM Switch
You have to cut the factory connector off and splice up or solder in the JDM connector.
(3) BLU/BLK to BLU/BLK on the cut factory harness
(4) YEL/BLK to YEL/BLK
(5) YEL/WHT to YEL/WHT
(6) BLU/GRN to BLU/WHT
(7) YEL/RED to YEL/RED
(9) BLK/YEL to BLK/YEL
(10) BLK to BLK

Right Mirror

'A' should already be connected to 1 on the relay and B on the driver's mirror
'B' should already be connected to 5 on the relay and A on the driver's mirror
'C' BLU/BLK to BLU/BLK on the cut factory harness
'D' BLU/GRN to BLU/GRN
'E' YEL/WHT to YEL/WHT

Then you just have to neaten up the wires with zipties, secure the Relay, reconnect the door jam connectors and reinstall the doorpanels

Great write up......do you have any idea where I can get a wiring diagram for JDM power folding mirrors going into a US 95 cx hatch. As you know, the US diagrams are not the same....tks
