tech wrench JDM Type-R engine swap ?

I have a 98 non-vtec Teg, and am thinking about swapping the motor with a JDM type-R motor. Just wanted some feedback on it and wondered if anyone here has done it. any problems with it ? i dont have to worry about emissions or anything like that thank goodness. i really dont know too much about the jdm motors in certain points. such as their ECUs. are they similar to ours ? OBD1 and OBD2 ? It should pretty much be just a direct drop in, but, if anyone can leave some good notes/tips/or tricks on this, it would be helpful. thanks

why wont you have to worry about emissions? its a jdm motor. no matter wat u do to it, it wont pass smog. although with what i have in my motor, i wont pass smog also.
btw, how much are you getting the jdm type r motor for?

ANYTHING is possible if you know the right people. It should just bolt in....as for the wireharness/ecu you have to ask someone else. I'm pretty sure the JDM axles will work with it, but from what I've heard you can use your stock ones too. My tips are to get an Acura Training manual, Helms, or Haynes, a good set of tools, a friend or 2, and an engine lift.

Where are you from allmotorbeast? Because where im from we dont have to go through emissions and i live in connecticut and i think that you dont in pa either. People in cali go through alot of crap with fixin up their cars.

yeah, i am in Pa, and we dont have emissions here. atleast not where i live. there are certain areas that do. i thought that the wiring harness was opposite, so i really havent figured out how to do that. having the ecu on the driver's side isnt a big deal, but, the wires that go to the battery will probably pose a problem. and the complete swap, which is everything from the engine to the mounts, and all the extras in between, with under 60k miles, is $5400 shipped.

im from california and california is the most restricted state for emission. how sorry is that!!! ur getting a type r motor for $5400? if i were you i would do a fully built ls/vtec because i think a type r motor isnt worth that much. with a jdm type r motor u still be in the 14's but with a fully built ls/vtec, meaning from bottom to top, block is sleeved and everything, and you'll be in the 13's. thats just my opinion because thats what i did and now im hitting 13's.
