Angry Knocking sound from my GSR after high speed run! Help!

Yesterday night I was following my friend's modded VR4 and he gunned it on this long stretch of road, I floored it after him in my GSR. I was right on his ass up until 130 then my car just died! I mean completely shut off, I was like WTF then coasted to a dead stop. Then I parked there for a couple seconds and it started right up, It drove fine, idled perfectly and stuff so i didn't really worry and just drove home. When I got home I parked it and hear this horrible knocking sound, sounds like when you start your car up in the morning before the oil circulates and you hear that "click click click" for a couple seconds, Well now it's doing that all the time. It's loudest at idle, but as I give it gas the sound gets a little quieter. This morning I gave my car a valve adjustment and the sound is still there. Any ideas please? Please help I'm afraid to drive my car.

well check to see if you can pull any fault codes from the ECU..... Your car might have thrown a code before killing its self.... Do that you may have something out of whack

Could you explain exactly what happened when your car shut off? I would think since you were in gear when it shut off wouldn't the tires lock up?

No, 'shutting right off' wouldn't lock up the tires. This is something driving instructors do to beginners. Get you out on the highway doing 55 and say, "What would you do if I did this?" Then reach over and turn the key back a click (ON) thus killing the engine. Well, you push in the clutch and re-start the car. No problem.

This sounds like detonation. May have bent a valve(s)?

What RPM were you at while going 130? If you were in the upper RPM range for a good amount of time, you good have heated up a few valves and as a result, they bent and are currently wearing new seats in your valvetrain. The first thing i would do if i were you is take the valvetrain off and check your valves and springs. Then check the ecu to see if any codes are being thrown.

It seems ot me that if you were at 6500+ rpm for about 10 or more seconds, then you could have over heated your valves and they warped or bent a little. Checkl that out and fix it as soon as possible, or else you'll end uip buying a new head ;:

I was at 130 for not too long, I hope its just my valvetrain. Do you think I could have spun a rod bearing? If so how would that sound?

Smile knocking sound from my gsr after a high speed run

hey if you spun a rod bearing it would make the same loud knocking sound at idle and it should get louder as you get up in rpm. check the oil, see if its reall black i spun 2 rod bearins each in different engines so i can tell you whut i am

i know whats wrong

I know exactly whats wrong cause I just did the same thing, running a mustang gt on the interstate. started just a little now its getting worst. You threw a rod bearing. All you have to do is drop the oil pan turn the crank and put the bearing bakc on if you can. but its a lot harder than it sounds I promise. but I know that thats if, if you havent thrown a rod yet that what it is. later and good luck jordan

Thumbs up

the only thing I can tell you if you want to quit guessing, do a compression test. It should be able to tell you something

That shit happened to me, but my car didn't shut off, well I had low compression in all of my cylinders and I bent 4 of my valves.

Did you over-rev? Just doing a high speed run is possible to bend 4 valves?

you might've melted a piston. turbo + flooring it for a long time really heats the engine up. happened to a dude on h-t in a turbo gsr.

A high speed run where you over rev could bend your valves...... one or a few. What happens is that you end up "floating" your valves., which means the speed of the engine surpasses the ability of the valve springs to retract (close) the valves in time in turn the valves end up hitting the tops of the pistons. This is a rough scetch of what happens
