lightweight flywheel good or bad...
Alright i know that lightweight flywheels give you an advantage by increasing your acceleration but they say that because of momentum that it reduces your top end, noticeably but how is this, if it is lighter than the factory one then it hould make it easier for your engine to turn faster therefore making it al to go faster...does any of this make sense to you guys??? im just trying to understand how a lightweight flywheel works... Thanks guys

are you mother f'ckin serious?

a lightweight flywheel will help out all throughout the power band. the only downfall is the fact that when you let off the gas, it'll lose momentum faster, so you'll have to relearn how to drive your car (assuming that you do competitive or spirited driving) and make it so you don't drop your revs too much and fall out of your powerband. then again, with enough smart mods to your motor, that shouldn't be all that hard to do unless you're an idiot trying to take a turn on 5th or 4th.
please search next time..

lol, you havent been around that long. Its very aggravating when you have to answer a question that you JUST answered last week. For something as broad as that, a simple search would have given all the pro's and con's of the flywheel.

Sometimes people are a little ruff here, but its the internet who gives a shit!! but whats important that the information given is correct, yes a light wieght flywheel has an advantage becuase the engine revs faster because of less rotational mass, at the same time it is harder to drive and you will lose some low end but since we are talking about integras who cars about low end=), now more important is what is light and what is too light. Hondas offers the integra type r flywheel and it is a great buy because its an OEM product so the fit is perfect and it is lighter than a standard Gs R flywheel but not to light, actually perfect for 180whp, now if you want something more aggresive you will pay the price in drivability.

You don't lose low-end, your low-end acceleration is actually better. There's just less rotational mass/inertia when you are first starting/engaging the clutch. Has nothing to do with having any less power/torque at the low end. In fact, low-end acceleration in 1st and 2nd gears is one of the biggest BENEFITS of a light flywheel.
The ITR flywheel is merely a shaved-down version of the normal one in essense. It would make more sense to either shave your own stock flywheel or just spend a little extra more and get a "real" lightweight flywheel like the ACT 8.8lb one for ~$250. The ITR flywheel was only meant to compensate for the extra balancing weight for the B18C5 bottom end anyway.

I've heard of some aftermaret lightened flywheels..(I'd imagine lower quality ones) destroying engine bearings..I have seen a couple thread on H-T.com and some random websites. I would go for the stock ITR flywheel, myself..tht may be in the future.

Shouldn't he maybe wait on doing just a flywheel swap? If he is going to get it done for him at a shop, the labour costs of dropping the tranny would be quite high. I want a lightened flywheel, but I am going to wait for some labour overlap.
i.e., when I need a new clutch, or am ready to get a new clutch, LSD etc, I will do it all as a package deal so everything can get done in one drop of the tranny.
