LS or GSR?
Hi, I am new to Honda world. tried search but it doesnt work
my brother gave me 6000 dollars to buy an integra for him and I cannot decide should i get LS or GSR. I am sure most of you guys would say go for GSR but here is my concern.
1. Good mpg, the car is going to drive 90 miles communite to work everday
2. Economy: I heared to fix B18C will cost you a arm or leg?
2. Reliable: He lives in Oregan which parts and shops are pretty hard to locate.
3. Good performance: I read from some where that some people liked B18B instead B18C, is it has more protential or what is the reason? For B18B, with basic bolt ons what power figure can you get? are they reliable?
Please help me decide with reasoning, thanks alot

if you can find a clean gsr for $6k i'd jump on it. another thing to consider is the insurance and gas. a gsr will cost more to insure than an ls and requires 91+ at the pumps.
1. keep it under vtec and the mileage aint too bad
2. parts are plentiful for the b18c and there's plenty of info on the net if you like to diy
3. it'll be reliable if well maintained
4. people that like the b18b instead of the b18c either a) plan to turbo b) cant afford a gsr c) are missinformed

I'd just go with the Ls. If he ever wants to mod in the future he can do a vtec head swap.

i would get the ls tho... cheaper, and you can do some real nice mods, and you can always run ls/vtec

you said he wanted it to be Reliable, good gas, and decent performance
just try to find a GSR so you get it all bundled into one, if you get the LS you'll have gas milage, and reliability, but if you want performance you'll have to either turbo, or LS/Vtec, with both you gain performance but you'll loose gas milage, and you'll definatly loose reliablity.
keep looking for a GSR

why when he can just get the GSR to begin with??? and LS/Vtecs can have reliability issues as well. when my GSR just had h/i/e it still got good gas milage and i had a lead foot. itll make decent power with some bolt ons and i think ud be more pleased with it than the LS. just my 2 cents

I would definitely say GS-R. You would need to rebuild the engine to do an LS/VTEC, which is more than the price difference between an LS and GSR. The LS/VTEC also doesn't rev as high as the GSR motor, since the B18b and B18c don't have the exact same bottom end. Plus, if you end up selling the car with an LS/VTEC, you'll get little or none of your money back from the mods. When I was shopping for a GSR a few weeks ago, I saw alot of LS/VTEC swapped tegs going for the price of a stock LS. Hmm, you might want to look into buying a teg that already has the swap, but I personally would never buy a modded car.

wtf?? you know, some people really just don't see the point in getting a gs-r.
you're saying a lot of people that have the b18b are either poor or stupid? ok.. this may come as new info to you, but not everyone races. another thing, if i had to start over with integras, i STILL wouldn't get a gs-r. there's no point in it. ls/vtec gets more power and the b18b is better for turbo. that's only a few among many.
the gs-r is nice, but it's overrated. i'd understand if you were talking about a true ITR, but please.

Umm ok... not planning to turbo, could have gotten a GS-R, not misinformed. How about a cheaper car with more midrange power (which is what I need for the type of racing I do) and much cheaper parts (aftermarket and OEM) with much cheaper insurance? Even cheaper gas... even with $2k+ in engine mods I can run 87 octane. Yeah I'm clearly misinformed. And poor. But oh yeah... maybe that's how I could afford sticking a shitload of money back into my car!
I like spending less money every day to drive an LS that I made faster than a GS-R with cheaper parts. Damn, I really just wish I could afford a GS-R... with VTEC, y0 :clap

a) no plans for turbo. my stock LS gets almost 400 miles / tank on highway miles. its my daily driver..wat else can i say
b) gsr's dont cost that much more than the LS. At most 1-2K..thats nothing
c) nah...used to have an 01 lude :byye
It all depends on what you want.
LS - much better gas mileage and uses 87 oct. good midrange, larger disp.
GSR - 91+ oct, gas mileage good, but not as good. good top end. vtec ownz

i would not get a GSR for a 90mile a day commuter car, the gears are so short youre almost at vtec at freeway speeds.
I like the LS in its stock form for its comfort, especially the automatic, its very smooth. I always recommend the LS for a daily driver. just tell your brother to scrap performance for now. he wont like the GSR driving those 90 miles everyday.

stock GSR trannys do not have short gears. vtec kicks at 4.7k on a stock ECU and ure hitting vtec in 5th on the freeway that means that ure on it. its all preference, honestly, its wut u are looking to get out of ur car performance wise and as a daily driver. i have a built gsr as my daily driver, gas milage has gone down since ive fixed it up. sucks that i have to use premium and i have to refill once every 10-14 days depending on how hard i ride my car. but performance wise i am very pleased with the results. i think the LS and GSR both have their advantages and disadvantages, but they were both beautifully designed for different purposes.
