ls parts that fit vtec
Hi I was just wondering if anyone could help me.
I currently have a 96 ls integra with 214,000KM on it. I was planning on doing a vtec swap in the future. I was just wondering what performance parts etc. that I would be able to put on my ls now that i could transfer over to a vtec later. ex. a short shifter?
Also how long do you think my motor would last if it isnt driven too hard and it is maintenanced properly?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

With proper maintenance, that motor could make it into the 1,000,000 km range. More realistically, 300,000 miles is not uncommon to see with stock parts (with proper replacements like timing belt etc).
Depends what 'VTEC' motor you get. The GSR B18C1 has the most issues with compatibility with LS parts. The Type R B18C5 has more interchangeability with LS parts (Header, Intake, Exhaust). etc etc.
What motor are you looking to swap?

I heard that the LS becomes less reliable when you convert it into a LS/Vtec is that true?
I think its bullshit...
Also i think he should go with a h22a

Isn't the only dimensional difference between GS-R and ITR/LS the header/cat/exhaust length? If so, as long as you keep your old header/cat/exhaust it should bolt up to the new head just fine.
Intake though, LS fits ITR, but not GS-R. Other than the head-related stuff and LSD, I can't think of much else that wouldn't work with another B-series VTEC engine/tranny swap.

It is not bullshit. Why do you think he should go with an H22? It depends on what the car is used for, but I'm generally not an H22 fan. So much you can do with a B-series without resorting to the weight, complication, and relative lack of interchangeability of an H22.

Well, for the most part it is true because to make LS/VTEC as reliable as stock LS, you need a PERFECT build. More so than most other builds.
For this reason, a majority of LS/VTEC builds end up falling apart and/or having major problems. In theory, LS/VTEC should be fine (while in my opinion and many others, pretty much a pointless mod for people just wanting a cheap GSR).
H, and K swaps are totally only for those who want to do it for the sake of doing it and don't really have a budget. A lot of extra work when you can still get great results from B-series.

but h series engines are the best honda engines to use simple bolt-on on; K series are mostly used for turbo from what iv'e seen.

So you're going to do a whole engine swap to a much heavier motor with inferior interchangeability just to throw bolt-ons on it and make 170-175whp with some torque? K-series are also by far the better N/A motor anyway, whether it's just bolt-ons or a more advanced build.

oh no i wont even drive a honda anymore i just laugh at most of them now. and h22a is not as heavy is people claim it to be its just as heavy as a k20a with 20 extra pounds. and it'll respone to almost any bolt-on better then a b-series engine, its kust a bitch to boost because of the stroke ratio.
k swap are better but also very over priced engines which not many ppl can afford.

So ls exhaust, headers etc will only fit a type r motor not the gsr. But a type r motor is extremely hard to find i tohught and its expensive? I was looking on this site and it doesnt say if its b18c5 or not it just says b18c. Japan Motor Import - JDM Parts and Engines
What would i be looking at to do a swap?

Anybody can buy a red valve cover. B18C5 is Type R.
B-series parts (except for the specific GSR intake/intake manifold) will bolt up to each other. It's just the exhaust system lengths (Header/Collector/Pipe) are different as said before. It's not a difficult custom job to make things fit if you need them to.
