Ls/vtec for $1000?

Well i was still undecided on whether or not to rebuild my current ls motor or go ls/vtec, so naturally i took myself to a local performance shop to see what they thought. right now they are telling me to do the ls/vtec which i'm all for if it's done right, and i know it will be because the mechanic who will be doing it has done many in the past and they've all been perfect. however, they are telling me that it will only cost around $1000 to do the whole thing, and that includes about $300 worth of labor. They told me that they could do either gsr or b16 head, new pistons, machining, and all of the other goodies that go with it for that $1000. Does this seem right? At first i wasn't going to go the ls/vtec route because everyone is saying that its sooo expensive and such, but for that price i would gladly do it. It just sounds like there's some kind of catch. Anyways, does $1000 for ls/vtec and everything sound right??

I think thats about right price. When I had my teg ls, I was searching for a gsr head and the price was between 300-500 bucks and labor was around 400-500 bucks. I dunno about putting new pistons, but the mechanic told me he had all the necessary stuff to put in the gsr head it will cost around 500 bucks.

i'm getting mine done for 700. i also got a vafc, new ecu, new header, new fuel rail, and i need to do some tuning after i get new pistons, shot peened rods, and blockguard. so yes, ls/vtec's an investment, but when done right it really whips ass and is well worth the time and work. good luck to ya, i know i needed it, but i'm well on my way to finishing my setup.

edit: if you have any questions, feel free to ask. my AIM sn is hiph0pactivist with a zero, not an "o".

I think that is a little cheap for a reliable ls/vtec conversion.
