well you dont really have to, but its a good idea to get one once your tranny starts slipping due to the extra stress. Why not swap to stick at the same time when doing the ls/vtec?

yes, u can still use ur auto tranny. HOWEVER, ur going to have to stick with ur current ecu. currently (here in the US), there are no automatic-equipped VTEC ecu. all of em are standard based. there are, however, some rare VTEC ecus in japan that were made for auto tranny equipped vehicles.

so the ls/vtec setup is doable with auto trannies but u have to figure something out to activate the VTEC solenoid. either manually -- by a flip of a switch, or automatically -- by an RPM activation device such as MSD rpm window module.

if u figured out a way to activate the vtec solenoid, then ur good to go. if it's going to be a straight head swap, then ur stock auto tranny is going to be fine. if it's going to be a "monster" or "beast" then u might have to get a better torque converter to handle the abuse.

hth and goodluck.

i met this guy at the races in my town and had that setup and he claimed he ran a mid and high 13 on the quarter. and he did a little peel out. and the damn car lifted up like a freaking domestic.

moral story, that shit is crazy!

APEXi VAFC would do the job

level ten torque converter = $500.00 and a little over for tax and stuff like that.

check out their site.

GOOD LUCK!!!
