Does anyone have any expierence with a LSD helical style like the OBX in the snow and ice? I'm contemplating getting an OBX LSD for my '92 GSR but heard that they don't do well in the snow. I read somewhere that the helical style is good for high traction situations like road racing or autocross...but in low speed low grip situations like rain or snow, when one wheel completely looses grip the power won't transfer the the other wheel. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Plus anyones opinions on the OBX LSD would be great. The only problems i've heard so far are your axles getting stuck because the place where the snap ring on your axle goes into on the LSD insn't beveled. Also really thight fitment into the casing.
Helical LSDs don't send power to the other side IF there is NO resistance on the slipping wheel (like in the air). I'm not sure whether snow/ice would provide enough resistance or not... but if not, it would just act like an open diff.
My driving impressions from the wet are that if you use too much throttle, it will snap into understeer since both wheels are spinning, but if you're careful with it it can be much more effective than an open diff, since there IS more traction. In wet autocrosses the LSD freakin dominates... but you have to know how to use it. Should be the same in snow I would think. More potential traction.
I've posted before on OBX LSDs... I've heard horror stories but I also have friends who have installed several with no ill effects. I would (and did) just go with the ITR LSD and GS-R/ITR 4.4 FD (required to run the ITR LSD).

Ebay, classifieds, or friends with way too many Honda parts lying around (in my case).
I'm not sure but I *think* they would work on the B18 cable tranny.

Hurry... great deal here on an ITR LSD: http://www.honda - tech.com/zerothread?id=1795941
You will need new carrier bearings, a few shims, and if you're installing on an LS/B16 tranny, a GS-R/ITR final drive kit.

Derek, how much did installation cost you- if you didnt do it yourself?
My buddy (Honda mechanic and fellow racer) did all the work plus installed my Prelude front brakes for $150. Doesn't really reflect how much it would be if a shop did it... shops usually charge a ridiculous amount for what is really not that hard of a job, after watching/helping him do it.
