MAINTENANCE TIME~

sup guys..... so recently ive been runnin my car pretty hard and plus it's gettin near 100k.... i popped open the hood the other night and found some oil seeping through the head gasket of the motor. not alot just a little, but i think its about time to change it aniways. along with that i checked the oil pan and around it there's smudge build-up. so im planning to get a new head gasket and oil pan gasket. since im already in there... should i also change some other parts too since it's almost at a 100k. maybe water pump? oil pump?

tips, info, feedback, advices please~

thanks in advance

Have you done the timing belt/water pump/ tensioner? That was supposed to be done at 90k and is very important.

wo0o0o the list just got longerrr aha

thermostat and flush coolant system sounds good. along with valve adjustment, fuel filter, spark plug wires, and distributur cap.

recently i just got new spark plugs not too long ago.. and when you say rotor do you mean turning the rotor and gettin new brake pads or is this something else? and for the valve cover gasket im assuming its the same as the head gasket for the motor correct?

seems like this list gettin quite big... i dont plan on goin to a dealer because they'll be pulling quotes/estimates/prices out of their asses... maybe a local shop that sports oem parts? or goin out and buyin these individually and having someone help change them? or should i goto a shop and maybe buy one of their packages/deals? and if i were to goto a shop nearby and buy a package/deal, which one would be the best one?

aha sorry if im askin too much... just wanna make shur i get this right and the car gets all the maintenance it needs... the last thing i need is something leaking or a blown motor .. wanna get it right the first time aha

I mean the rotor inside the distributor cap.
Dealers usually change all the other belts, that is why their price is so high. Power steering belt, ac belt, alt belt. Which is a good idea to do to.
I would do all the stuff you can and let a shop do the rest, if you don't have the meens or the know how. They can get most of it in one big swipe. Seeing as they have to take most that off to change the head gasket.
Something like this, I would take to a repuatable shop. You are going to spend to much money to have it messed up.

My car is having the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner done right now. My local shop quoted me $750. I went on team integra in my local forum and asked someone to do mine. UNDERGROUNDAUTO is doing mine for $400 with parts (parts are like $312). The guy really knows what hes doing, and you cant beat the deal. I would recommend this being done first. Its VERY important that it is done on time. If the timing belt should snap, youre looking at a new head. Your valves drop down, allowing them to be smacked and bent to shit by the pistons. That should be on the top of your list, since you're 10k miles over due.

Also, valve cover gasket and head gasket arent the same thing. On the top of your motor, you have that big black metal cover with the oil fill hole. Thats your valve cover. Under that is the valve cover gasket. It covers your valves, rockers, etc. It is what sits on top of your head. The head is the top metal part of the engine. If you look down by your header, youll see a seam that goes all the way across the engine. The seam is below the headers. The part above the seam is your head, and below it is your block. In between this area is your head gasket. A head gasket job will run you close to, if not more than $1000 if you take it to a shop. Parts are only around $200, the rest is all labor.

The red part is the valve cover.

This is what a head looks like off the block.

This is a block, without a head on it.

This is a head gasket.

And heres a picture of the internals of a B18C1 (gsr motor).

just checked again today and confirmed it was the valve cover gasket that was leaking and not my head gasket. ill be taking the car to shop sometime this week and hopefully they wont be pulling prices from their asses.. like you said, i plan on gettin the service that was due at 90k (water pump, timing belt, and tensioner) along with that a new valve cover gasket and oil pan & oil pan gasket. im kind of short on budget at the moment so i guess im goin to delay some of the other maintenance right now. but ill see how things go and get back to you guys. thanks again

p.s. could someone please tell me what a tensioner is? and what it does? lol was a question from my last post that still hasnt been answered. greatly appreciated
