Alright, I have managed to scrape up around 500 for a cat back exhaust setup for my car. The current one on my car is too old and very abused (due to the fact that my car is dropped). The resinator on it is shot to hell. Anyway, I am going to make the purchase on Monday and I want some advice, what to go for? This is going on Teg GSR 95. I really dont want something abnoxiously loud, but I do want a decent power gain. What do you think? I hear the N1 is good, but pretty loud and deep sounding. Also that the 5zigen fireball is pretty good sounding with fair power gains. Skunk2 anyone?
apexi N1 too ricey sounding???
that is one of the most free flowing exausts out there!
i have had it for 2 years, no problems and would recomend it to anyone!

I had the axleback Fireball exhaust on my LS with custom 2.25" piping going to it from the cat.. I personally like the angled tip, it looked nice, but it sounded too bumble bee for my tastes... I have a 3" thermal on now and it finally makes my car sound like a normal car, deep and low...

The first thing you should do is present your plan and Not just be looking for an exhaust, unless that is the only motor/ power mod you plan on.
Then based upon your current power and or potential power, (and how it may fit with your header) decide on the proper piping diameter.
Then you should look at some systems that fit into your budget and plans, and are the proper diameter, with nice welds, mandrel bent piping, good flanges, (no bottlenecks) well desigend resonators and muffler cannisters.
Get all that down and you should be able to narrow the search quite a bit AND use the SEARCH function here to help you gain more knowledge and help you select a system to fit your needs.
Very obviously this topic has been covered before and you may look here to your hearts content to answer many of your questions.
As for the N1 being "Ricey?" that's just ignorant. It is a straight through design that provides one of the best free flow options for a muffler cannister AND it tends to be LOUDEST!
BOTH the Apexi and Skunk2 N1's are 60 mm OD piping and very well desgined for free flow and decent power gains.
The Apexi is a higher pitched sound and a bit more hollow sounding. The Skunk2 is a deeper bassier sound. BOTH are loud but, the Skunk2 is louder at top end with a cat, HF or other. The Apexi screams without a cat and beats the Skunk2 for obnoxious points and you run a serious risk of getting a ticket with either.
I can't promote the 5Zigen fireball since it's resonator has a weird design on the indside that helps to change the tone but looks like lots of small fish scales that protrude from the inside walls and constrict flow in the name of sound altering.
ALL depending on what your goals for the car are, you have MANY choices for the $500. range and could even have a shop do a custom job for about half that price with Magnaflow products. It just depends on what you plan to do with the car in the future and what you plan to slap on it. It all works together as a system, the I/H&E... I'd never suggest getting a cheap setup just because you need something now or ASAP...
If money is the issue and you don't have quite enough yet, then save a bit more and get the right system ONCE, so you don't have to spend double and get another down the road when it Again wears out or doesn't fit your needs or plans.
