new timing belt?

This is my first post. I just recently got a 1996 Integra GS-R a little over a month ago at 217,000kms. I was wondering when I should change the timing belt and water pump? I hear that it should be changed every 90,000miles (144,000kms) I'm now at 220,000kms so I'm not sure if I need to change or not. I read somewhere I should change it at 70,000 miles (120,000kms) if I'm driving it under heavy conditions. So should I be changing it at 288,000kms or 240,000kms? And if I do change the belt I should change the water pump as well?

I'd say change both now just to be safe. I did that on both of my Hondas and never had any trouble out of any of them...

X2

It should be changed every 60K.
All B Series engines are "interference" engine, meaning the pistons chase the valves. If that belt breaks, the odds are very good that the pistons will hit the valves and then you'll have a very big, expensive mess to fix.

I find that its always better to change something if you dont know when it was last changed, i.e. spark plugs, oil, fuel filter, timing belt, water pump. Its a fairly easy bit of wrenching, so get the book on your car, get under the hood and get to know your ride

I already got the repair manual and scan through it a bit. Seem's a bit intimidating and complicated, but I might give it a try. Where should I be looking for these parts?

Go with the oem stuff it your best bet. I also thought it was intimidating but i suck it up and did it prefect for the first time. Just have confidence in your self bro and if you catch a snag on the way we will try to help you out as much as possible.

The number is 90,000 miles.

However I would do it now for extra security since you dont know the total history of the car.

T-belt should be changed every 60K miles according to the extreme driving conditions maintenance chart in the Integra owners manual, and every 90K according to the normal conditions chart. Were both right YAY!!! Although I do think the majority of us on these boards drive in a way to qualify as extreme condtion driving. Take care of your GSR matryx, do risk the life of your beautiful engine! It's worth it.

Yah I think I'm just going to get all the parts and get someone to do it for me.
Where should I be looking for these parts? Should I be looking for OEM's or aftermarket? Things other people suggest I change with my timing belt:

Change Timing Belt
Change Water Pump
Tensioner Pulley
Spring
Front Camshaft Oil Seals
Oil Pump Seal

Thermostat
Radiator cap
Spark Plugs
Distributor cap
Rotors
Fuel Filter

What do you guys think about it?
