I have already searched but could not find what I was looking for. Anyways, the OEM Panasonic battery's eye color has turned clear. It has been in use for 8 years so I want to replace it. I am not drawing huge amounts of load from the battery that would call for a top of the line battery. Basically, what I'm looking for is an OEM replacement. I would prefer to stick with the OEM Panasonic but I'm not sure how much they cost and if it is better than diehard from sears, interstate, or batteries from autozone. Can someone give me a few suggestions as to which one I should go with? I have a stock stereo system and that's it. The most I will do in the future is upgrade my deck & speakers. Sometimes when my car is off, I listen to the radio or cd for a while so I want something that won't drain out quickly and is reliable. Keeping costs down is a plus.
BTW, my gf's dad bought a battery (not sure what brand) from his '85 camry but then it broke down. Anyone know if it's a possible fit? What kind of specs do I need to look for in that battery to make sure it's okay to use in the teg? Thanks you guys/gals are always helpful.
just look at the ratings on his battery and compare them to yours....i think the shape might be different, check it out...btw, if the original panasonic lasted 8 years...i would get one of those again

My OEM Panasonic started dieing after three and a half to four years. I replaced the Panasonic with a Duralast battery from autozone. I didn't have any fitment issues and the battery has been working fine for two and a half years now. I hear some people have had their OEM Panasonic batteries last for 9 years+.
my panasonic battery died last year...got my car in 2000 lol..
i replaced it with a costco battery for now haha..till i get the funds for a Spoon lightweight one, or mebbe TIR..
is weight a factor? or are you just wanting to change the battery? most of them come with a guarantee...
good luck
Alex you JDM whore.... Just get a dry-cell 13lb. Hawker Genesis like mine, $90 shipped:
In the words of the tech inspector at my last auto-x: "Does that thing power the whole car?!?!" It's so small I can nearly mount it flat in the stock battery box.

Weight is not a factor at all. I'm just looking at reliability and cost. Can anyone give me the dimensions to a stock teg battery and the ratings that it requires (CCA)? I just looked at the sunday paper and saw sears have a Diehard Gold battery with 3 yr. full replacement ltd. warranty, 100-mo. ltd. warranty. Regular $79.99 now 71.99 with exchange. Is this too expensive for what I'm getting? How does it compare to a stock OEM Panasonic from the dealer? I heard that the dealers here do not carry the Panasonic batteries because the panasonic batteries came from Japan where the car was manufactured. So they actually carry some American name brands in their parts department. Can anyone verify this?
Dunno but I'm pretty sure stock is either 390 or 410 CCA... mine is 260 so it's probably not what you want... good enough for me though!

I took out the OEM panasonic battery and looked at the "eye". It was clear which indicated it needed charging. I went ahead and took the entire battery out of the car and opened all the caps to see the water level. It was pretty low so I guess the previous owner didn't really maintain the battery. I added some distilled water and cleaned the terminals and the battery posts with sandpaper and reinstalled everything back. The eye still says charging is needed. If I drive it around for a few hours, will the battery recharge itself and hold its charge? Should I pay someone to charge it or just buy a brand new battery? If the battery gets recharged, will it be like new? I'm trying to cut costs down because I need to replace timing belt, tensioner, tensioner spring, water pump, all belts, all gaskets & seals, etc.. I'm currently at 77k.
