problem after exhaust install

hey guys, i just had a rsr axleback installed onto my itr midpipe. when i start the car in the cold, the engine revs at about 1,500rpm normally. now when i start the car, i hear popping sounds coming from the exhaust. at first i thought it was the bass from my music but it's definetly coming from the exhaust. it pops more when the engine is cold and reving at about 1,500rpm. i also hear that noise when i'm almost coming to a stop in gear. any advice?

well i can undestand it reving up at cold starts... but that popping sound seems to me as pre-ignition. pre-ignition gets modified because there's not enough backpressure. you can try put in higher octane gas or even try octane booster to help.

Don't bother using more than 87 octane on a LS if your timing isn't advanced.

You're just wasting money.

Popping sounds are just unburnt gases, does it happen when you shift?

It's pretty normal... Try using 87 octane, that will be easier to burn so you will have less un burnt gases coming out the exhaust.

Another option would be to buy a vtec controller and adjust the fuel so you're not running so rich. This needs to be done on a dyno with a wide band o2 sensor.
