I was trying to change the cap and rotor for the distributor. But I accidently stripped the screw that was holding the rotor down. It was on there hella tight and I didn't realize that I stripped the head.
Anyone know anyway for me to get the screw out? I tried drilling a hole and using a screw extractor, but that didn't work.
Please help!!! I really want that stupid screw out. Does anyone know how much it would cost if I took it to a shop?
ummm....i had that problems too but it was on a valve cover stud
i dunno i just used a flat head + a hammer.....eventually it will come out but i duno about distrubutor ...worst case is you'll have to buy a new dist...
I had that problem with a 95 integra I was servicing. What you do is break off the plastic rotor untill you have good access to the screw. Next get a thin as possible chizzel and a hammer. Put the chizzel at an angle (couter clockwise) and start tapping with the hammer, it'll eventually come lose. Good luck

I used that same tecnique with the rotors bolts, it was a pain in the ass
You could try filing a slit in the head of the stripped bolt and use a screwdriver to get it out. It is kind of like making a new groove for your screwdriver.

get a niddle nose vise grip. That is your best and cleanest bet to get that screw off without messing anything up.
I've been working on cars before you started asking your father you wanted a car. you CANNOT open a locked screw with needle nose visegrip because #1 if you've ever had to do you you'll quickly find out that its not possible. #2 if you had to put that much pressure on the screw with a screw driver that the screw stripped dont bet too much on the visegrip as it'll just slip off and damange the screw more. Please remember that you are CHANGING the rotor, i've been doing it for as long as I can remember. I'll tell you again. you BREAK off the rotor with some plyers, that way you have total access to the screw. Next you put a chizzel at an angle and tap it out with a hammer. Dont tell me what I should/should not do because obviously you've never had to deal with changing a rotor with a stripped screw on a integra.
you will need to replace the distributor, if you bend that shaft at all, the rotor will hit the cap. unfortunately you will need to replace the distributor

Sorry, I have been fixing cars since I was 16. I think 10 years working on cars, I would know not to break more than I have already did when I stripped the screw. And yes, tripping those screws are common. And vise will take care of it without breaking off anything. I think only you would ask your father for a car... I hope you don't break more things to fix something that small... I stripped the screws on my NSX... so should I break something on that too? If vise don't work, I would drill out the screw first before I break anything off my car. No need to tell people to break anything off to gain access.

Dude i've used vise grips before and they dont work for shit.....you basically just destroy the whole head of the screw togther if you use that crapola......and i've only been working on cars for a year or two.....:
i would suggest you use a chizzle ( or something like it) and a hammer....
thank you, i'm glad someone knows what they're talking about. because if wenlyone knew what he/she was talking about, they would know that you CANNOT PHYSICALLY get any vise grip in there! try for yourself and see, a screwdriver hardly fits and still sits at an angle thats how bad the design is.

I urge people who do not know exactly what they are talking about and are just going on a theory to not get involved in discussions at all. Because if you even had the slightest idea on what the original thread starter was having trouble with you would know what was going on. click-and-hold on the scroll bar, drag it all the way up and read the first post. He said "I was trying to change the cap and rotor" NOT "gain access" like you say. Again I tell you because I truely think you have no experience in this and i'm happy for you for your NSX. I'll send you a cookie next time.
