Raising compression in a b18b without block gaurd?

As the thread title states i was wondering if you can raise the compression of a b18b using ctr pistons safely. That woudl throw it up around 11.5 to 12.0 im pretty sure. Can this be done? Or canit only be done with block guarding the enigine? I searched but i did not find anything exactly what i was looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Yes you can do it, and block garuds aren't the best idea in the world have you ever seen how a block gaurd fits into a block....and to put it in you really have to mash it in with a hammer which could distort the sleeves bore...plus the ammount of coolant is greatly reduced coolant flow wise....not a good idea to me...but yeah bore, hone, hot tank, zyglow the block then magnaflux the crank put in new bearings, new rods, and new pistons all at the same time it'll save you alot of headaches and money.

If you just hone the walls can you raise the compresion at all? Or if you want to raise the compression for a na setup i should consider something else like the b16? I want to go all motor but i can get a deal on a b18b so i was jsut wondering. Side note - are there non vtec cams for the b18b that are more agresive... i cant seem to find any online. Thanks for the help.

Crower 403/404's seem to be very popular for B18Bs.

Your all motor LS won't be faster than an LS/VTEC motor with cams thats built...its just not going to happen, my buddy thong had all motor LS with crower 404's and the car has given him nothing but problems...just because a cam is more agressive doesn't mean its going to make more power in a LS...I told you what to do with the LS block and it'll be fine with 12:1 c/r but you need to do the basics to insure the safety of your motor and that would include, pistons, rods, hot tank, bore and hone, and zyglowing the block also magnafluxing the crank put in all new bearings, ARP mains, ARP rod bolts all new gaskets...thats how you do it if your building all motor.
