b20/vtec and ls/vtec will never be cheaper... faster? Yes... cheaper? NO!

really? i was looking around at some shops when i was looking into it and i could of gotten it done for 1500 installed, but that was because i had my head. so with a b16a head it can be done for around 2200 i belive. thats cheaper then the b18c1 alone. however i am not sure on these prices. the shop that i was going to go to was 161822. my friend thinks of them very highly.
I would NEVER trust a shop with a ls/b20/vtec... if you don't know how to do it yourself it shouldn't be done... It's just a far too complicated thing and plus your gonna need better internals, better externals to keep the engine running... u can have a shop plop a b18c in there and it'll be fine and reliable but unless you know how to do the b20/vtec yourself you should trust nobody else to do it... It's not just a regular swap, its a frankenstein.

yeah no shit, plus there are some shops out there that have built more than i will ever dream of building. why exactly shouldn't he trust a shop experienced in building "frankensteins" to do so?
i would trust my honda mechanic to build one, even though he has never attempted it. i trust him to learn about what issues are possible with these setups and how to remedy them, and probably provide him with a little reading material myself. i know him well and he wouldn't do anything halfway.
oh, and as for the ls/vtec subject covered in-depth..
Yes yes I know enough about ls/vtec already... If you wanna turn over your car which you have worked hard on over to somebody else then that is your problem... It's one thing to have someone do the milling and another to have them do the whole setup... Not to mention the fact that a good shop would charge alot more for this swap then they would for any other... To have a running ls/vtec takes a lot of time for dyno tuning and setting up the parts... Sure I guess you could just plop a b16a head on there and it would be all fine and dandy until you get past 2000 rpm and all of a sudden the engine blows up.:

nobody said they were just gonna "plop a b16a head on there", you must have really had a bad experience with an ls/vtec at some point. it is actually not my "problem" that i am willing to turn my car, which i have worked very hard on, over to someone that i trust with it. rather than a problem, i consider that a privilege.

No... no personal expierences yet... I've just read far too many stories, many great saying how great it is, and many who have completely fucked up their engine and lost everything... a 'good' ls/vtec is VERY expensive to build, upkeep and drive daily... Plus I just don't trust people and would rather do it myself.
