From people who i have talked to they say the vafc is useless and actually made their engien run worse. one of the guys was selling his for 10 bucks at the races but noone would but it.

Yep. I have one. Paid $50 for it. Hell of a deal. Works good as a second tach and boost gauge. Sucks for tuning.

I believe I read somewhere that all you have to do is not hook up the Vtec wire ... otherwise they are pretty much the same.

Not quite useless if you actually tune it on a dyno... My car would run like absolute crap without my S-AFC. It's not the best tuning tool but it does do SOMETHING... I managed to make the upper end of the power levels you can expect with my setup by using an S-AFC - the older Version 1 also, not the new V2 with more tuning points. Of course if you just slap in on and mess around with it, it could easily make your car run worse... that's not the fault of the tool.

V-AFC = S-AFC with VTEC control. As Stoph said, you can just not hook up the VTEC wire for now and be fine.

Yeah I was thinking the only thing you could adjust would be the air fuel curve
Im just going to go get my ecu chiped for 15 and burn a new chip everytime i do something new.
