Screeching and smoke = Belt?

So, I stored and left my integra on my driveway right before the winter season started, and now it's spring and gave it a start. As soon as it did start though, something started to screech and then seconds later smoke started to show. I'm not sure if it is one of the belts or not, but the smoke was coming from the belts portion of the engine, which is the right side of the engine if you look at it from the front. Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks.

Like really thick white smoke? Or just your everyday white-gray light light smoke caused by friction?

Thick white smoke is almost every time caused by a faulty/blown head gasket (the white is caused by coolant).

If it's just light smoke that you can hardly see, just try taking a bar of soap to the belts as an initial fix to see if the screeching stops. Could just be belts, or you could be in a bigger load of trouble if the smoke is thick.

Belt smoke can be pretty thick. I am going to say if you say it has a horrid squeak its prob. a belt.

I would assume too that if he was burning coolant 1.) you'd smell it 2.) It would most likely come out his exhaust or from his engine block not the belt area.

Touché. He'll probably smell rubber burning then too if the belts are causing thick smoke. I've never seen belts so bad that they cause any smoke at all lol...that's gotta be a sight.

Haha, once I was sitting outside my local library and there was some ford focus that started up with a squealing belt, I mean this mofo was squealing. It kept running and by the time he was about to exit the parking lot it was smoking quite badly.

The guy opened up the hood and smoke billowed out and there was a small flame followed by the belt failing completely and the engine then overheated, lol. It was the belt to his waterpump. That foci got fucked needless to say.

The smell of the burning is more towards the rubber side.. I don't think it smells like any liquid like coolant or whatever.. Hmm, dunno why the belt would be burning tho.

chances are your belt got a little brittle and you just need to change it for future reference the next time you store your car crank it every once in a while and you wont have any unexpected prolems
