Angry SERIOUS brake problems...NEED HELP

Got weird things going on with my brakes; i got a 01 GSR with brembo crossdrilled rotors with stock pads and 17 wheels, coilovers and height dropped about 1.5 ". Sometimes when I'm stopping the steering wheel pulls hard to left or right just before the car stops. I've also had times where when I accelarate hard it pulls left and right and I have trouble keeping it straight. Anyone ever had problems like this before?????:

hey man, i have the same problem. It has to do with the altering of your suspension geometry. The Geometry of your suspension is a very important part of the car and to get the right settings is hard and takes a lot fo knowledge and research. That is why when you buy a car it has the setting it has. When you lowered your car this affected the camber, caster, toe and steering. Too much camber can cause a bunch of straight line driving problems with your car reacting to the the angles of the wheels with unwanted response in the steering wheel like car pulling to one side. Caster can cause steering problems because the pivot point is not sitting directly above the wheel but either in front or behind and can drastically cause your car to deviate from a straight line. Toe causes your wheels to not be parallel to each other and causes real bad uneven tire wear.

Ways of fixing these and getting settings that are as close to factory or to a setting that is right for your setup is a camber correcting kit(but I think for you, your camber shoudl not be that bad and you want a little bit of negative camber to help hold the turns better). Tie rods can help adjust caster better.

If you haven't gotten your car realigned since the lowering I definitely would recommend doing that first beforce purchasing parts you don't need, but the lower you go the more adjust you are going to need to make.

Oh and this should fix the problem when braking too. when you are braking you are appling alot of force and that reacts with the suspension. If it doesn't solve your problem, then you could possible have uneven braking power, but this seems highly unlikely, being your car is pretty much new.

Hope this helps. Any more questions just ask

Thumbs up

Some good advice B2S,

Another thing to do when getting the alignment is to get the car cornerweighted so it is again balanced and poised correctly.

1.5" of a drop does deserve some attention and an adjustable camber kit especially if you are experiencing these dilemmas thus far.

As well if the camber is too negative you may have better extreme cornering ability but also loss of traction and braking ability especially in a straight line.

1Greyteg I was wondering how much it costs to get your car cornerweighted

But, I have a good friend who had his done for his setup for the track.

I'll ask him tonight and let ya know ASAP.

My GSR is totally stock, and when I slowly break and then apply more pressure, sometimes before it stops it will pull to the left. I don't know if it is suppose to do that either.

Guys, all this info is great, thanks!! Unfortuanately i'm stuck in middle of no-mans-land when it comes to imports but i'll try to find a shop that can weigh the corners and adjust it. I have to buy new shocks soon...thinking about Tokicos?.....and I'll get everything checked out and adjusted then. Again, thanks for the info!

GSR10 yo man, just one more suggestion. I would stay away from tokico and some koni yellow. The koni's are alittle more expensive, but you won't be sorry in the end

Get your brakes checked and an alignment might help out.

thanx : ) I think I will do that after i put the lowering springs in.

Do you have any suggestions on which is better?

H&K sport or Eibach Sportline?

one has a higher spring rate in the front, one has a higher spring rate in the rear. What is the difference by having the front stiffer than the rear or vise versa.

I am going to use the stock shocks for now. And if there are any after market shocks suggestions that will be great too : )

thanx again
