Shifter is Squeaky! HElp!!!

I have a aftermarket short shifter on my 98 teg for over a year now. Everytime I shift, it makes a funky squeaky sound. Very irritating. What can this be? Can it be my shift linkage is loose or what? pls advise.

Do you have polyurethane shift stablilizer brushings? if you do that could be the whole squeaking problem since those prothane brushings are known to squeak. What kind of short shifter is it?

It's a possibility. BUt more times than not the poly ones do that. There is not much to worry about though.
