some signs of the master cylinder going out

ok this is the situation
i went out driving downtown during the "cruising" time. i was there for about 3hrs or so and when i was at a stand still and my foot on the brake. the pedal went all the way down 2 the floor. it did it a few times that night and this happen b4 like almost a month ago during hte same situation, meaning i was downtown cruising. but when i left adn went home, the brake pedal went back 2 normal and i think the brake fluid is full. ill recheck the tank 2day 2 c if it has dropped but when i last checked it was full. can some1 tell me some signs of a master cylinder going out. also how much would it cost 2 get a new 1 if need b

hey...the master cylinder on my civic went out not too long ago (clutch) and the pedal started going farther and farther down before it engaged the clutch...if you notice there is something wrong, you don't have too much time before complete failure to get it fixed...mine lasted about 3 hours of total driving time from when i first noticed it, to when i had to get my car towed to the dealership... gluck

they replace both the master and slave at the same time usually...for my clutch master and slave + labor it was 300 bucks...

ok... it could be basically one of 3 things. the most likely being the first.

-master cylinder seals are starting to get worn, or the cylinder bore is worn
-old brake fluid that needs to be flushed
-weakening brake hoses...

Damn, $300 bucks to replace those at the dealership? You were ripped off....They are easy to replace, cause it only took me about 30 min. to replace both of them on my Prelude. I don't remember how much the parts were, but I didn't spend anywhere near $300 for the parts...
