hey... i was hoping some of you fellow integra owners can help me out ....
when i start the teg for the first time during the day, the engine shoots up to 3K RPM and stays there for like a minute or 2.... does anyone else have this problem?.. and can anyone give me a problem with my car?
When the engine is cold, the car will be in cold start mode. It will idle high. The only thing that matters is if it comes down or not. If it idles fine after the car is warmed up, then its normal.
Gas mileage is based on how much throttle you are using, not how high the car idles during cold start ups.

none of the other cars does that... my old hatch didnt do this either... it just stays up at 2500 until the engine heats up
its normal for a car to be high when its cold.

Sounds normal to me . If it drops back down when the car is warm then its all good . If it bounces then you could need to tighten the thermo valve in the throttlebody base . These sometimes come loose .

Try looking under your hood. It'll tell you the proper specs for where the idle is on your car. In my GSR, it says 750rpm +/- 50. My in-laws civic says 670rpm +/- 50.

I have seen posts where people say to turn the screw on the fast idle thermo valve as well...I looked & I have even taken it apart and have never seen a screw that you can turn. I want to know how it is done as well....I know on the IACV has a screw in it that looks like it can be adjusted, but if anybody has a screw driver with a 5 sided tip (pentagon shape) to adjust it, I would love to know.
Your Fast Idle Valve. I am pretty sure that you have a manual and electronic valve just like me. In this case I would say you may want to change your manual Fast Idle Valve, it will run you roughly $50 from Honda/Acura. The reason your idle may be so high during a cold start is because this valve becomes dirty. Find me anything that says idleing at 3000 RPM's is normal for a Honda, I would like to see it. Your car should idle at 2500 MAX.
