stock injectors/fpr/timing/running lean
well ive posted sum posts before about a fuel prssure regulator......well my teacher said if i got an intake and exhaust, im may be runnin just a little lean, so were gunna slap on the fpr and mess with timing a little, get a little more power, but were just gunna bump it maybe 2psi, from 40 to 42. one of my friends said that u cant do it on stock injectors, i dont think it will be that big of a deal. what do u guys think?

Yes you can do it on stock injectors. But you don't really need it for the basic mods that you are doing. The computer in closed loop runs off the O2 ssensor so it will make necessary corrections for fuel there.
In open loop mode, the ECU reads off preset fuel maps thats programmed into the ECU. Those maps are pretty rich from the factory already because manufacturers already took that into account to prevent the engine from ka-booing.
If anything, those mods would put you where you want to be IMHO.

I think your teacher is right. I just put intake and exhaust on my car. Before i did my car ran rich alot of the time, even at idle. When id rev up the engine in a car port you could smell the gas, now you cant smell one bit of unburnt fuel.

i agree with that. if you wanna do it right you can tune it on a dyno. I wouldn't bother with just an i/e since it is rich from the factory.

Yeah not worth the trouble with just bolt-ons and no dyno. You'll probably end up getting a little better gas mileage too!
BTW your friend is dead wrong - stock injectors can handle a LOT more than stock fuel pressure. The LS, GS-R and Type R all use the same 240cc/min injectors. I'm running 47psi through mine and I've seen people run as high as 55psi through stock injectors. It's just not a limiting factor until you reeeeaally need a lot of fuel.

I have a chipped ecu. That is the only thing I can think of. It runs fine like that. No problems what so ever. Unless my guage is wrong, it is at 71. I have talked with a bunch or people about it and they all have said it will be fine. Should I be worried about something?

The fuel pressure is affected by your B&M FPR far more than the ECU. I guess whatever works, but that seems VERY odd and I would bet your gauge is off. You're running almost twice the stock fuel pressure with minor mods.

Maybe it is. I meant the chip made it run very lean, then to conter it, the fuel pressure was bumped up to give more fuel. When i dyno'd before the FPR, it was very lean. We put that on to adjust to where my fuel was right. We used the wide band O2 during the dyno.

Wow... well I guess the wideband does know best, so whatever makes the wideband readings happy works I suppose! I just would think the fuel pump would self-destruct at that point!

Not yet, at least. No problem signs or anything.

To my knowledge, chipped ECU's run rich, not lean. Because your engine is less likely to go kaboom being lean than rich, its just a sure safe bet to cover their asses to go rich rather than lean.
How are you reading the 71psi? Vacuum gauge on or off? If you are truely running 71psi as you claim, I'd highly recommend going with a standalone or a setup that its capable of handling larger injectors. It is time for an upgrade if you are really running those fuel pressures on stock injectors.
I've seen the stock pump handle up to 60psi, but chickened out and backed off. IMO, I'd ditch the chipped ECU and just revert back to stock as its not really doing you anything besides giving you false hope. But thats just me.
