straight pipe

My friend has a 2000 ls and he just got a DC jdm type R header with 2.25 inch piping and a generic exhaust. THe only other mod besides his susp. is an aem short ram. Was the header a good move or a bad one? Should he have stuck with the header made for his car? anyways, to the main question. He said his exhaust was leaking (he didnt buy the flange for the header) and now he wants to straight pipe his car. can this be done on ObdII?

It can be done but he's going to have his check engine light on telling him that there is a problem with hit catalytic converter. I had the same problem with my test-pipe so I did an obd-2 to obd-1 conversion to solve it. Well worth the money for the conversion...

He won't experience the REAL difference that the B18c1 and c5 guy's will with a JDM/DC header...

It's header collector is 2 1/2" and he will require a cat or straight pipe to fit this...

Any time you go from a larger diameter pipe to a smaller one with exhaust you are actually choking a motors exhale.

The problem that he has is that although 2 1/4" diameter piping is the Tuner diamter for most catbacks, he will feel torque loss and less off the line gain/feel, the car will respond more linearly and smoother with less grunt or torquey punch, AND NO HE DOES NOT WANT MORE BACKPRESSURE.

What he wants is to find the proper exhaust piping diameter that fits his motors output Not exceed's it. Larger is Not always better IF the Motor CANNOT maintain the proper exhaust gas flow velocity.

His car probably felt better stock and is just louder now which is why you are asking this?

Good luck,

A.

expect to see the CEL come on...the car will run in safe mode.

to fix the problem get a o2 simulator or you can switch to a OBD1 ECU...dont hassle yourself get a carsound performance cat, its smog legal with good gains and no CEL
