strange smell when A/C or heater on...

hey guys,

call me crazy, but whenever i turn my A/C on i always smells this sort of musty, perhaps even mildewy type smell. whenever i have the heater on it smells like something is burning. i'm not sure what is causing all this. about 2 or 3 months ago it was pretty humid out here and while i was driving i saw this grayish-white vapor coming out of my vents. this totally freaked me out and when i took it to the shop, they told me that it was condensation from the humidity. i don't know if i buy that or not. its been humid before and that has NEVER happened!

any ideas? has this ever happened to anyone??

Thanks

-M-

Where i live my air blows out a visible vapor every one in awhile during the summer. Its not a problem. But you might need to check your air filter(not your engine air filter) and see if its dirty.

it's a normal thing with high humid places..i live in hawaii and that shit happens all the time with my a/c

as for the musty smell, try spray lysol or something thru your intake vents right next to your windshield wipers and turn on your a/c and leave it on high..

it should kill some of the mildew built up in there. =P

Shit naturally grows on the evaporator and heater core over time due to the constant changes in temperature and plus its dark sometimes damp from condensation off of the evaporator when the AC is on. Best bet is to check the drain plug within your HVAC system and there is a little hole somewhere in there that is probably clogged and full of shit from dead leaves dirt debris etc falling into the cowl and eventually breaking up and falling down into the HVAC system (Airbox etc with the tunnels vents and shit that leads the air around in your car through the dash), they make stuff to spray into that and onto the heater core/evaporator etc to take care of that happens all the time with HVAC systems in all cars.
