You need to drain the radon gas or whatever is in your lines to cool your car. Get it drained by a shop. Does not take long and they dispose of teh chemical properly.

x2. you have to have the refrigerent vaccumed out of your a/c system by a shop. its illegal to release the gas out into the air. r34a becomes a gas once it's released and is harmful to the ozone layer. not as bad as r12 was but still is illegal. once you get that done its pretty easy until you have to remove your dash if you want to get the evaporator out.

so besides taking off all the tubes and the actual ac part and the fan i gotta go inside of the car and remove the panel and take off the "evaporator"?

Well, the evaporator core (i think...) is the radiator looking thing in front of your engines radiator. That can be taken off as well, allowing for more air flow to and around the radiator.

-A/C compressor
-Hoses
-Dryer/reciever unit
-Evaporator core
These can all be taken off

Now im not 100% on this, but doen't the AC have its own fan as well? If so, you could probably leave this on, take off the evap core, so this way you can have another fan to cool your engins radiator at the push of a button.

It does have its own fan. It's unnecessary to have a 2nd one to cool the engine, I'd go ahead and take it off.

wrong, thats the condensor thats sits in front of the radiator. and it does have its own fan. the evaporator is another unit that sits behind your fire wall in your dash. it is connected to the blower and heater core. together they are one big unit, some cars you can take it out just by removing the glove box and some the whole dash. but my suggestion is to leave it in there because its a bitch to get out and probably only weighs like 5lbs it self. and maybe one day you want to go back to ac, so save your self the trouble.

It sucks, when I took out my A/C I took out the evaporator, but since getting a g/f I've heard constantly that cold air blows on the passenger's feet because the evaporator box isn't there to direct the air from the blower (I also get less heat and airflow through the vents... doesn't defrost very well). So I want to put the evaporator back in, but mine is pretty messed up from being stored in a not very safe place. Gotta find me another one and put it back in (getting the bolts back in place is gonna be a B!TCH!!!).

yeah i know how bad it can get, i just finished my a/c class and had to remove complete a/c systems and replace them and that evaporator core is the worst to get to.

You don't need to put the evaporator back in. I left mine out, along with the foam. Just reinstall the plastic box that it was contained in. How can you live up north in the cold weather and not have working heat blowing through your vents?

Yeah, after researching yesterday I realized that was possible. I think the box itself is still ok, so I may do just that. Another option I found out about yesterday is installing the ITR or non-A/C '92-00 Civic heater duct, which is basically like the empty box, although it's smaller... might flow a little better and be easier to install. The duct is $35-40 online.

There's a little air the comes through the vents, just because the blower shoots air AT the heater... but it's not much, and the passenger gets a blast of cold air on her feet even on the lowest fan setting. Anyway, it never gets THAT cold in Seattle... there was a 2-week stretch where it was like 30 degrees, but most of winter is like it is today... high 50, low 40.

I don't think the non-ac unit has any adtantages. I have never had an issue with not enough heat blowing through the vents. The only reason I would get a smaller box is to fabricate a larger glove compartment. Did you tape up the hole between the passenger compartment and the engine bay?

No, but I'll do that... thanks for reminding me!
