Time for a new muffler - time for a laugh...
I use my bone stock 1992 integra for deliveries, and well, The stock muffler has kind of fallen apart. and by "kind of fallen apart", I mean that the tailpipe supports the muffler has fallen completely out and the only thing keeping the muffler from dragging on the ground is *ahem* a half roll of duct tape.
*side note* due to the issue at hand, the engine sounds quite beefy, which is cool .
At any rate, because of this, I have begun to venture into the world of aftermarket parts. I have ordered the vibrant streetpower muffler (part number v321721), pic attached below. The process seems fairly straight-forward, but that I have not once ever needed to replace a muffler on any vehicle I have owned, so this is breaking ground. Now, with all that said, what are some things I need to watch out for while installing it? What size sockets will I need to do the work?

And for those of you who might be interested in what a half-roll of duct tape looks like on a muffler, I have included an image here:

I hope it's JDM duct tape.
Vibrant is decent. Should fit up pretty well. I would guess the bolts would be metric, unless Vibrant is really ignorant, and sends you imperial stuff.

Mass reply:
capntoll: ROTF about the jdm remark.... naa.. USDM FTW OMGHXCBBQ!!! it's good duct tape to be holding for as long as it has (about a week now and holding strong. Meh, the amount of duct tape on would be able to hold a tank together. either way, at $1.50 for the roll, it was a quick cheap fix until I can get the muffler in. According to what I saw on the site, bolts were not included, but if the holes are imperial, I have the necessary machining and threading tools.
STLAcura: GEE! HOW EVER DID YOU FIGURE THAT ONE OUT?!? lol. I couldn't justify installing photoshop just for a couple images (check the image gallery for my front end for another laugh.... I'll just say the deer wasn't laughing when his leg got introduced to my front end. Amazingly it didn't do much damage. Honestly, you will not be able to miss it. It's the worst-looking integra in the gallery.)
All I have to say is props to honda for making some tough little cars. I will need a new hood and headlight brackets for the driver's side if I want to make it look half-decent, though.

Cool. I just can't justify the cost of a full catback system right now for the purpose the vehicle serves, though, so I'm only replacing the muffler. When I get a better paying job, I'm redoing the entire intake and exhaust system in one shot. I just want this poor little integra to be (somewhat) socially acceptable and not have people laugh at my $1.50, 20 minute fix.
By the way, does anyone know how I am supposed to get those rubber fittings on the muffler mount points off, and will a new gasket be necessary?

i understand man & the hks is pricey, but worth looking into down the line.
spray some liquid wrench or pb on there (kroil is best, but hard to find) & just yank on those fuckers til the hangers pop out. a gasket where?

Please forgive my ignorance on these things. You can probably tell I'm new to this, but here goes:
From my understanding (which is very limited in vehicles, but will soon expand once I get into tuning), and correct me if I'm wrong: a gasket between the bolt-on point of the intermediate pipe assembly and muffler is present, is it not?

Well thanks for the very helpful information.
I had just done some research online, and you can keep this for your information, but it looks like there is no gasket for it (thankfully). Once I replace the muffler, I'll be posting a how-to guide for new people on how to do this kind of work so no one will have to ask how to do it.

The muffler just came in and.... holy cow. I've never seen an exhaust tip so freakin' huge in my life. Will a stock integra have the back pressure to be able to run something like this? I mean to go from two tailpipes the size of a silver dollar to a single tailpipe the size of a grapefruit is a drastic change here.
