Update: The duct tape on the old muffler came close to ripping completely off the mounting point I had it on before I got to my parent's place to install the muffler.

And as of 7/8/08 at 10:00 pm, the muffler is now on the vehicle... what I find very surprising is that in low-speed city environments (35 mph and under), the muffler is much quieter than even when the stock muffler was in good shape (less some major low frequency resonance while idling)! That's a major plus as it won't disturb people as I'm driving by. on highway driving, at approx 3400 rpm, the muffler has a major sweet spot... It's got a great balance of tone and volume.

In terms of installation, the OEM mid pipe and new muffler point didn't exactly match up, so I'll be keeping an eye on that for exhaust leakage for the next couple days.

Noted installation difficulty: 16 years worth of rust on the the nuts and bolts ended up making me have to break the heads off the bolts with an impact gun. Other than that little issue, the muffler was changed matter of about 25 minutes, so not a bad installation time, and the results turned out very nice.

as far as getting pictures of the progress, I was unfortunately unable to provide them as I didn't have a camera to my access throughout the process. A couple images of the final product will be posted when I get back to my house (expect them to be here sometime on friday) so ya'll can see my handy work.

A very big thanks goes out to Clayton and CapnToll for their input and answers to my questions.

No problem. Good to see you tackled it on your own, and found your way around the few snags. Lookin forward to the pics. Any audio clips?

Okay, couldn't find the digital camera that had a mic, so I'll get a clip with audio tomorrow. Pics are up, though.

at the rear bumper... Turned out to touch the bumper after it was installed, so there is some melting at that point:

and here's the difference between sizes between the OEM and aftermarket pipe widths:

get a pry bar, and maybe a torch if you need it, and bend your metal hanger(s) in a way that keeps the muffler where it should be.
