topped out at 120 today on FW

I was coming home from a b-day party at around 1 am on the 5 FW, this v6 eclipse does a fly by so I thought I should join in on the fun. anyway to make a long story short, my GSR pretty much topped out at 120 in 5th on flat road with 3 people in the car including me. Was wondering if thats pretty much the limit on a stock GSR

i say topped out because it was either going up really really slow after 120 or I didn't have enough time/road, thing is I hit 120 quite quick, in a matter of seconds but when it hit 120 the 2nd runners opened up but I didn't feel it pulling anything or it was just pulling slow, anyway ran out of road when there was a car in front so I had to slow down... sorry I just like to push my car to its limits

Would've Really sucked for your passengers and any other citizens unlucky enough to be near you, If you had lost control and had a wreck.

I don't say accident because that would imply that you weren't at fault.

120MPH on ANY public road is Wrong any way you look at it, but, doing that while you have a few passengers is just so arrogant.

I'm glad at least that you made it home alive.

Keep it on the track, and at least try to be safe. We don't need another person losing his life needlessly.

Or maybe it's just another form of natural selection.

This is NOT the Kills forum OR the Bragging department.

Stupidity vexes me,

A.

To answer Seephor's, inquiry:

The stock 94-01 Integra's are drag limited. They usually top out at an indicated 145 or so MPH. I've heard claims of 150 but, am skeptical. You must also remember that the Stock Teg guages RPM and MPH are not That Accurate at higher Speeds.

So 145 is certainly possible in a well kept smoothe running specimen.

But, I must reiterrate that he was attempting his high speed pass with Passengers And on Public roads. Which are 2 Very Stupid things to do.

Lets not let this post degrade into My teg or My Brah's Teg is faster than yours or you are just Slow. He made his statement and asked his question lets Not let this become a Flame war.

Be SAFE!

What is Drag Limited? i have been trying to figure that out! is it the aerodynamics, or what? anyways, mine toped out aut 148. that is going downhill too. i know that mine cannot hit 140 without that hill. but yeah, i learned my lesson - not stupid enough anymore to endanger anyone's life.

when i had my 2000 gsr only mods i had were intake and coilovers, i topped out at 145 ...this was on the I-10 getting close to the desert area {palm desert, palm springs} very open road with no cars at early mornings... this was with no passangers though so probably thats why..i took a pic of the speedo...just can't find it.

Yes, Drag limited eludes to the drag coefficient and how the car will push through air at speed.

In simple terms:
The Integra in stock form will only achieve a certain coefficient, combine that with the available power and it will only be able to PUSH through the air just so fast on it's own. 145 usually is the top speed under these circumstances. But, like I said the Speedo and Tach aren't that accurate up top.

I took the risk because of the road conditions. I mean, its suicide and arrogant as someone said to try that during a time when its not possible. This was at 1 am with very few to no cars on a flat, straight wide highway. I'm not stupid enough to move the wheel an inch at that speeds, I know the way my car handles thank you very much.

I'm sure I could've hit around 140 if I had the road and no passengers, it just would time quite some time from experience. The atmosphere plays the biggest role above 100 Mph, too much drag and not enough torque to compensate is what it comes down to.

when u r going "142" i really don't think that looking that hard at the speedo is really needed. just taking a fast look and saying 140 would be better then examining the speedo, saying 142 then wrecking.

Interesting observation 94ls,

I guess some people just have more natural commen sense.

So picture this piece of metal in the road that you cannot see far enough in advance because of sight limited by cover of night.,"even it the road is lit up!"

Can everyone Now imagine IF you got a severe tire blow-out at that speed.

What if it was the rear tire?

What if it was the front?

Combine that loss of control with the passengers screaming as you swerve to try and regain control.

Do YOU know how to react? Would you feel confident enough in the proficiency of your car and your ability to react correctly to emergency situations as such?

Driving in situations like this is just begging for all sorts of trouble and just gambling with the odds.

H'mmm...

To me It's just not worth it!

At least try to drive defensively... Especially on the roads we travel on everyday.

Good luck,

A.

Actually the speedometers are quite accurate.

Click here and you will see what i mean. Speedometer Tests It is meant for JDM but USDM shouldnt be much different.

P.S. I topped out my 95 ex at 130 the other night by myself on hwy 80 at about 3 am. Which i admit is kinda stupid considering i am in a 2600 lb car that isnt the safest thing at 55 let alone 130.
