WALBRO fuel pump install...
Tools needed:
Phillips screw driver
10 mm socket or crescent wrench
17 mm crescent wrench
Really small screw driver
Pliers -- regular and long-nosed
Lots of rags
Warning: Do not smoke while working on fuel system. Keep open flames away from your work area.
1. Relieve fuel pressure either by loosening the 6 mm service bolt on top of the fuel filter, by taking out the fuel pump fuse and starting the car until it dies, or by simply taking the gas cap off the gas tank.
2. Remove the rear seat. It's quite easy really. Just pop off the tabs holding the carpet to the back seat cushion. Once the carpet is off, taking the seats off would be relatively easy (refer to service manual for procedures).
3. Remove the access panel (unscrew the 3 phillips screws).
4. Disconnect the 2P connector, fuel hose, and the 17mm bolt (have your rags ready).
5. Remove the fuel pump mounting nuts (six 10 mm nuts).

continuation...
6. Once everything has been disconnected, carefully wiggle the fuel pump towards the front of the car. The pump sits diagonally inside the gas tank. So pulling it upwards towards the roof of the car won't work. It should look like this with the pump taken out...
7. Cover that big gaping hole so that nothing falls inside the gas tank. You're going to need a little time to put your new fuel pump together.
8. Go ahead and take the old pump off of the bracket. This connector is the tricky part. You will need to depress those little "light green" tabs on the left and right side of the connector. Once that "light green" or "dirty green" tab is off, the connector will come off easily.
9. Now that the old pump is off of the bracket, you will need to separate the filter bag from the pump so you can re-use the black rubber "thingy". Old fuel pump = top, Walbro 255lph fuel pump = bottom.
here's what you don't want to throw away (well, maybe you don't need it but I used it anyway). Hi! I'm the black rubber "thingy".

10. In order to properly take the old filter bag off of the pump, you will need to pry out the silver circular retainer holding the bag in place. The small screwdriver will easily help you in prying that retainer off.
11. Now you need to transfer that black rubber "thingy" to the new pump. Put that on first, then the new filter bag. Once everything is lined up, use the new retainer (it should be provided) to secure the filter bag in place. Walbro pump with the filter bag, not yet secured.

12. All you need to do now is to mount the Walbro pump to the bracket. You will need to trim the rubber tubing where the pump and the bracket was connected. Before the trim.
After the trim. Be careful not to over-do it. 1/2" should suffice.

13. After trimming the tubing, go ahead and install the new pump to the bracket. Make sure to clamp the hose tightly and re-attach the connector for the fuel pump. Close-up view.
Full view.
14. Go ahead and put the new and improved fuel pump back in the gas tank. Make sure that nothing is in the way before tightening the 10mm nuts down. Make sure not to force the pump in if it doesn't go in easily. Wiggle it around. Remember that the pump sits diagonally inside the tank -- not vertical.
15. That's it! Connect everything back on and make sure you tighten all the screws and nuts. Basically, just do the reverse when you took out the old pump.
Done! Finished!
Miscellaneous things:
-- Make sure that everything is cleaned up. The nuts and screws tightened securely. Connectors attached, etc.
-- There is a slight difference between the 94-95 and 96-01 integras when it comes to fuel pumps. The 94-95 (OBD 1) tegs have that 17mm bolt (just like the one on the fuel filter located in the engine bay, only bigger). In 96-01 (OBD 2) tegs, that has been replaced by the new fuel tube/quick-connect fitting assembly. Do not freak out if you can't find the 17mm bolt (for OBD 2 owners). Just unplug everything and you're all set to go.
-- As always, please refer to the service manual for all the necessary procedures. It is highly recommended to have a service manual or HELMS especially if you like to work on your vehicle a lot. We will not be responsible for any damges or injuries incurred due to the irresponsibility or failure to refer or acquire such manuals.
Weird? I got extra stuff that came with my fuel pump??? I guess I was lucky in a way.
Instead of just the pump and new filter I also got new hose and new clamps (the kind with a screw). Here is a picture of what was included along with my pump:
I had the hardest time ever to try and remove the stock hose. It wasn't until I could find my long nosed plyers that I was able to get it off. It was so much easier to use the new hose clamps with the screws. Easier to access too.
The weird thing is I didn't have to cut my hose. The new supplied one was just as long as the old one??? It fit with no prooblems. Could this be because my car is a 95 GSR? Could OBD1 be different from OBD2 cars or is it a B18b and B18c thing?
My new pump was the Walbro GSS-342:
I don't think model number should make it any different since the one I got was just the HI-FlOW version of the 255 one?

sak,
my pump did come with the same exact thing that u have. like u said, it was a b#&*h to take the old hose off the bracket. i didn't even take the old hose off the bracket -- i just cut the lower part of the hose and used the new clamp that came with the Walbro pump.

that is very interesting. thanks for sharing that. since both our cars are obd 1, it's safe to conclude that the difference lies in the car's trim level. now i'm not sure if it's also necessary to cut or trim that hose on obd 2 cars -- regardless of trim levels.

I notice more noise that the new pump makes.
Honestly, I got mines for security reasons, not for HP reasons. I just wanted to make sure my fuel system could provide enough fuel to my setup. I just didn't want to risk the chance of messing up anything.
randyman:
i have to had it to you that was fully detailed installation guide you got there. now i know how to do it exactly if i decided to do it. about how long do you think it took you minus the picture taking

gee, i don't really know. maybe about an hour, maybe around 45 minutes. it's really not that hard. the hardest part is wiping all that excess fuel when u take out the hoses and also piecing the new pump together.
if you could post or send me a pic of this " Bottom of Walbro pump with the rubber "thingy", filter bag, silver circular retainer installed." im having some troubles and the picture isnt showing up..
( silver circular retainer installed.)" im tryna figgure out where this goes
