If you are looking for a good short shifter, I highly recommend the B&M Edge short shifter. It goes for around $100, and worth every penny. They are designed for the exact model of car rather then just a general design. A buddy of mine worked for B&M down in Chatsworth, and he told me just how much work goes into designing each shifter. Try to track down Sport Compact Car mag June 2001, they picture instructions on how to install one.
After driving with a short shifter for a while, drive a car with an OEM shifter, and see the difference.

Although I have driven with the B&M Edge shifter and would almost suggest it.

IT rattles all the time, and for that reason alone I stay away from short shifters in general...

BUT the B&M tends to be one of the best of the inexpensive models. The other end of the spectrum is the C's or "sieze" which is a JDM piece that goes for about $400. That just ain't worth it to me and I have a friend that had it in his ITA car and BROKE IT!!! So I guess anything bad can happen to the cheap or expensive models.

So good luck,

A.

i've got a shitty short shifter I got for 40 bucks ... I'm happy with it, but at the same time I wish I would have gotten a better one. I'm always afraid of breaking it during a throw .. which I've heard can happen. A friend of mine took his 89 crx si to a shop around here to get his clutch fixed and they somehow took his stock shifter and turned it or something .... so the first 4 gears are really short, but 5th is in the same place and reverse is too. It's really weird but works good.

Skunk2 makes an excellent shortshifter and goes great with their shift knob.

I have the neuspeed short shifter. It comes with bushings, installs easily, and is very very nice. Anyway Tuan, a former and possibly the best mod ever, recomended it to me. He knew what he was talking about when he said it was the best.

All i have to say is i dont have one in my G3 teg but my close friend does. I drive a RS with basically a CAI and header right now. He has a GSR and ive driven it before. He let me drive it when he got his short shifter and it fucking rocked. I found the shifts to be so much smoother. Going from the b18b teg to his b18c1 teg i found the extra power just slapping me in the face when i shifted hard at redline but with the short shifter it was a smoother slam into each gear.

in short short shifters make up for lack of knowing how to shift quickly.
has anyone here actually proven to them selves that theirs was worth it . ?
my friend has a B&M and its so damn short i think it hurts his times, i know when i dirve it , i thinkits way too short. i had a Dc sports one back in the day on my 99GS, it was a nice piece, but didnt think it was worth the moeny to spend on it . . . im glad i learned how to drive better since then

Is it wise to just CUT your stock shifter by a inch or two? I heard people doing this, but I need to know if it still rattles or not.

What are the pro's and con's? For example, look how short this shifter is:
